I've taken this statement out of the context it was in but it doesn't need the rest. This is a friendly forum, and yes this is a helpful forum but you can't disregard the amount of cons/basket cases that have begged assistance and the forum has rallied round (taking Jake out of this). There has been thousands donated to what appeared to be worthy causes and some long standing members seem to have very short memories. You could argue if you can donate something then you didn't need it in the first place, but it rankles when the donation is sold on, it's happened and it gets up my back.

Guy, Gate88 is a straight up fella, I know him well enough to consider him a mate, he speaks his mind and doesn't hide behind any forum political correctness that seems to be the way you're expected to behave all of a sudden. Why can't people speak their minds anymore, why is a thread considered to be heading South if for any reason someone disagrees with the majority.

What a shame a sensible debate is a thing of the past, along with a bit of **** taking, and a good old fashioned argument. There are some, once these threads appear (once in a while) that revel in pointing out the negativity, without adding anything to the forum in general.

Take a moment, take a breath and share in this fantastic hobby. Contribute to the forum instead of waiting to drag it down with unwanted negativity. Not this thread in particular but generally.

Rarely have I typed so much and then deleted it so many times in one thread.

Rarely have I regretted having to delete it so much, because most of it needed saying and probably still does.

Rarely have I been more sure that 'convenient amnesia' just leads to others having to learn to remember what someone else could have told them in the first place

Forum, facebook ,texting, phone call, face to face ... the medium makes no odds. Manners are, or at least should be, universal in my book.

I think you have to consider why people want to be a part of this forum. Hopefully everyone is here because they enjoy flying helicopters and they want to either share their experience and knowledge, or, want to learn from other people who have that experience and knowledge.

I have only been here for a short time and I'm very eager to learn and improve my flying hopefully to a competitive level. Unfortunately I'm not really in a position to contribute too much because I don't really have the level of experience and knowledge that would be required. Not yet, anyway.

Hopefully one day I will be a member of the '120 Amp club' and get to go to all the fly-ins and competitions and meet loads of people who are members on this forum. Until that happens, I guess I will just post the problems that I can't find a solution for and hope that not too many people get bored with what I have to offer.

I totally agree about manners. Unfortunately feedback and visual or vocal clues are fundamental in good communication. The internet medium doesn't offer that and the nicest people you could ever hope to meet are likely to run aground when it comes to using the internet for communication.

But Ron if we all start suffering amnesia then others end up going the same way. If someone comes on here asking for advice on paypaling money as a gift to a stranger in Nigeria for a very expensive model should we be developing amnesia there too?

No. You warn them, point them towards similar cases in the past then they can make their own minds up with that information.

The problem with forums, twit, Facebook etc is that what you write stays out there and often comes back to haunt you. The trouble with certain members (not just the one in question) is that they've already damaged their own reputation, the evidence is clear, that's not my fault that's just how it is. Now if you have a history of acting in a certain way then dissapearing & reappearing and repeat that pattern of behaviour and display the same characteristics you will get judged. That's not my fault either.

Maybe be I shouldn't go for the jugular at times but if you read the posts you'll see that all I was doing was pointing to history, harking back to old threads and patterns of behaviour, when I got upset was when certain people start CAPS LOCKING me and making accusations about my character without doing their homework. I got even angrier when I'm accused of lying (even though all the evidence is in the public domain) and hiding behind a keyboard. That's why I sent my contact details off, not cause I want a fight but because I will tell it straight whether it's on a forum, on Twitter, FB, the phone or on my doorstep. Some people find the truth uncomfortable, others are embarrassed by their past, I'm happy with all mine.

25 years ago, the "internet" was something I used at University - it was largely unknown outside of academia and Berners-Lee hadn't invented the WWW yet (the web and the internet are different things!). At that time, "Netiquette" was a well-known form of online manners and people understood the limitations of electronic discussion and the misunderstanding it can create. Foward 25 years, everyone has access to the internet and WWW and "netiquette" is largely forgotten.

That said, emoticons and rich text allow for better expression of feelings than 25 years ago. None of this changes the fact however that remaining civil and observing common manners should be expected online as much as chatting to somebody in the street.

As far as I'm aware, the person in question here simply asked if the heli was a good deal. May be there were some things in the past that didn't sit well with people, but perhaps just point them out, and then walk away...

So lots & lots of people come on here asking for advice, do I make detrimental remarks about them or their history?

                      Not often.

Ask yourself a question, why did I this time?

Might it be because in the past people have appeared on here asking simple questions but cloaking a another intent.

I don't want to smash people's reputations up in public any more so I've sent you a PM containing a question and a historical thread, read it and then you can make your own mind up.
