  • Optiguard on nitro ???.

Just got myself a synergy N5c it seems a very well sorted heli. Am running optipower 2s lipo through a gryphon reg. so my question.... Is it worth putting an optiguard on a nitro when there are no flight packs or high current solder joints to fail ??

This splits the camp. Personally I don't and just goes without saying have a decent connector on there. N5 is dainty leave it off IMHO. Just building a N5C cracking Heli enjoy it :>

I have exactly the same set up on my 700n Don. I use and Optiguard, won't hurt to fit it if you have one spare.

Don - I guess you don't have HV servos? Otherwise, why even have the regulator? 2S LIPO direct to the electronics is nice and simple - less to go wrong?

Fly it as it is Don and fyi I have Ultraguards on all my helis both nitro and electric although Mj and I have different opinions on this. Saved my 800 nitro and since then I use them on everything. Weight penalty is nothing.

Would be HV on a nitro for me though if I had the choice but nothing wrong with your set up and it will work fine as you know.

Don - if you want an Optiguard - I have a spare one. You'll need to buy a new LIPO for it, but they're only £6 or so.

                  Don,
I have exactly the same as you on my newly acquired 600N, Gryphon Reg, Optipower 2s 5000mAh lipo and 615 servos.
Yesterday i took delivery of an ultra-guard as i figured it would be sensible to fit one.
My issue is that i have no spare ports in the reg, so i opted to plug the ultra-guard in to the receiver port on my vortex.
As my tail servo runs direct from the vortex (to avoid using a step down) all the ultra-guard does is protect the tailservo. i.e when the pack is unplugged the power to the tail servo remains but not on the cyclics.

                  Dan.

                    Fit an OptiGuard Don.

Choose what power source you use it can fail whether it be just a 2s pack or through a REG

OptiGuard is very cheap insurance that only has to work once to pay for itself.

I have a spare optiguard, it's just I have never had RX power failure before and only once have I had an ec5 desolder and on that occasion (at AIR) it really did save my heli. The chances of an RX lipo pack or reg failing just seems too small to worry about but it looks like the consensus it to fit it anyways

You've had an EC5 desolder so you could as easily have an EC3, or whatever connector, desolder on a rx power lead etc Don. As I have said to Maj I will most likely say I told you so if it ever happens to him although I do of course hope it doesn't!!

Ultraguard has saved a very expensive heli for me so personally its a no brainer.

Don, only a month ago the optiguard saved my g4 when one of the solder joints on the rx pack sheared from vibes. Vbar control warned me of a drop in rx voltage and I thought my radio was freaking out... landed and realised just how lucky i was

It's a very cheap and lightweight backup solution, so why wouldn't you?

chech that this is actually working - cyclics move. I had to rewire my gryphon so it just provided power to the FBL rather than have the servos plugged into it.
