  • Replace my Blade 70 ESC

Can anyone recommend a good replacement for my Blade 70 amp ESC .We tried to reset it but it is giving high revs and will not detect a low battery.I read that Hobbywing do an 80 which works but I am completely out of my depth here. A little guidance please

Hobbyking YEP 80amp ESC, These are excellent IMO.

also buy the programming card, it makes them so easy to setup.
Setup videos are available on YouTube.

Sorting out the KV with magnet count is a bit confusing but it does look good .Are Hobbywing and Hobbyking the same people

Personally, I'd go with a Castle Talon 90 as the BEC is very strong. You'd need CastleLink to program it, but I find the PC-based interface nice and easy to use.

Here is the sum for PWM-Frequency, motor KV x battery voltage x motor poles, then divide by 20 and then round the final figure down to get your PWM frequency, hope this helps. If you get one and get stuck just PM me and I'll talk you through it.

The YEP with programming card is fairly easy. I prefer the Castle Talon though because (a) I use Castle ESCs on most of my helis, and (b) I like the PC interface. That said, the YEP is a fair bit cheaper - but that's mostly because it's a Chinese clone/rip-off of the YGE (German, quality) ESC.

Any 6S capable helicopter ESC rated 70A or over should be OK. The "Kv" rating of a motor is "Thousands of revolutions per volt" (not kilovolt). So 1300*22 (volts) for a 6S battery = speed of motor.

I think I read somewhere that the 520h motor has 8 poles (magnets) so if using a 6s lipo your calculation would be :

                        1300 x 22.2 x 8 = 230,880 then divide by 20 = 11,544 so your PWM Frequency would be 10kHz
