  • What power plant(s) do you enjoy?

It's been a while (for me) since I have had an electric so I have kitted out a nice spec 90 12s machine this week. Met up with G who kindly lent me 12 packs. First 2 flights setup got it dialled in headspeed, agility, gains etc. Then blasted through the next 4 flights which were reasonably enjoyable given the fact it's windy. I know its a new machine and that doesn't phase me at all but I reckon my flying was 30% worse than flying a similar performance nitro or felt that way. What really killed it for me today was 3:40 then hit the capacity limit and time to land. I know you can drop headspeed and other tricks to up the flight time but in reality that's compromising flight style as you've just set it up to how you want to fly it. Personally I would like E to work in my fleet but it does seem to disappoint as for some reason I just don't enjoy flying it as much.

So without been too nitro v elec in the typical sense which power system do you enjoy flying and why?

I believe that's called sitting on the fence Harry! You running for election??

I love nitro but due to time constraints with work I've founding myself almost exclusively flying electric. With being away for 2 thirds of the year however I had a nitro set up when I went away would and does require constant fiddling when I get back. For that reason I've found myself favouring electrics and bizarrely enough I'm flying smaller models now too. My current heli of choice is my Goblin 570. 2 x 3000 / 3300 mah packs per flight and I'm away. The heli flies exactly the same when I come back as it did when I went away. No real variables to contend with.

So to sum up I like both but would say I'm more a leccy man now due to the plug and play factor.

I have touched a nitro for a year or so, and haven't missed the mess, but slightly missed the noise. And I have loads of packs so not a problem

I.fly.both. I have a super accurate but slightly underpowered Hirobo Shuttle RG 30 and I have not so underpowered trex 700e and a (broken!) Protos 500.

That heli set up is as good as it gets, Forza 700, Kosmik 200, Pyro 750 etc etc and is a stunning looking heli but 3:40 mins flight time is rubbish and tbh I dont want to run lower headspeeds either to gain another minute as that is a compromise, so what's the point then? It's not like 4:40 is any good either!!
Hope the thread doesn't turn into nitro vs electric as I don't think that was the point?

If we are talking 90s.... Nitro, 1 gallon, 2 RX packs, 72 mins flying plus change - it's all about the air time :-)

                      Preference - nitro

Reasons - overall enjoyment & satisfaction incl engine starting, flight feel and hang time, sound, power delivery, smell, flight time, grab n go, not charging power packs, not having to plan number of flights, no battery maintenance, no risk of fire, tinkering, pride of ownership, consistent performance during a flight, wow factor in the air, smoke trail against a blue sky, I could go on...

yep its just a preference, have to travel that bit further to fly nitro but still my go to bird.

                            nitro
                            just fill up and fly
in the big scale models i do like a petrol engine
my electric heli's don't get a lot of flying, too much messing about charging batteries for a 3-3 1/2 min flight

but planks electric is the way to go
i'm even looking at removing the nitro motor from my bf109e and converting it to electric

At the risk of being boring, between nitro and electric I like both and I kinda like them for the differences between them. I have a Knight 3D with an OS50Hyper that I always enjoy flying (I'll enjoy it more if I can get the governor sorted which should happen as soon as i wire up the AR7110R but when I run out of 30% nitro the 50 Hyper is gonna be a bit lacking). And a Robbe Dyna-X with an OS91SZ it's even flybarred still! I run a couple of my 700 electrics at low headspeeds and a super light setup and I like the way they fly as well.

I have dabbled with gassers but got way from them for a while and now I am giving them another look so we shall see how that goes.
