I haven't watched it all just yet but a big 'well done' to you guys for putting it together. I might be able to clean up some of the wind noise Phil, I have a lot of audio editing tools to work with and I've done quite a bit of that kind of thing.

---just watched the whole thing now. Really the wind noise is not too bad after the very first bits, so prob not worth fiddling with.

just to follow up on my last post
i was not intending to be disrespectful to the excellent video
as editing can let the odd mistake through
well done guys its a very useful tool for those that don't know how to set a nitro engine up
and lets hope it stops the odd engine being blown up before its had a chance to be used for many gallons of fuel

i was just seeing how many watching the video was taking notice of what was being said, and what they'd learnt from it

On my machine I've put just over a gallon though it and am still running it very rich (why not!) so haven't really leaned it out much at all. I can check with dave where he has ended up on his 105's. Our next video will be a tuning video which will cover this in more detail! It will be a few weeks yet as I am about to get married/go on honeymoon

Zero offence taken, totally get it mate! I was actually quite impressed to see some people where watching it right through

Unless I missed it, does Dave adjust the high needle again, after leaning out the middle? He leans the high, then the middle, but I don't think he explains to richen back the high?

Thanks for the offer anyway - I was wondering if there would be a way to clean that up... I actually looked and with youtube you cannot 'update' a video so to speak. Would be a nice feature but I guess it would allow top ranking videos to change their content which might be unfair.

Anyway, Next time if I need any help I might drop you a sneaky pm tho

            new mic setup should help!

Thanks Philip. I am on about 1 1/4 on each I get enough power for what I want but my flights are not long enough approx 7 1/2 mins. I'm not running a large fuel tank but would still expect about 8 - 8 1/2 mins when flying gently. When I google I've read people have the regulated 105hz as low as 1 turn on the main but that just seems too lean to me. I can and will tune it further but it's always comforting to get others details so you know everything is ok.

There's not much you can do about the wind noise unless you have some very expensive post sound editing software but to be honest it's an information video, it is what it is, if it makes it to cinema release and you need Dolby quality then it might be worth putting the time and money in!

I think your time would be better spent doing another video covering a different subject than trying to iron out the wrinkles on this one, the odd gust doesn't detract from the message so keep up the good work and don't worry about people picking holes.

If you want a little bit of constructive creative input then it might be worth you shooting a few minutes of insert footage, things like a wide shot of the field, close ups of hands on Heli, a couple of reverse angles, birds flying, grass blowing yada yada yada, just so you can randomly drop them in on the timeline during the edit. Even if it's not direct continuity or relevant, a jump cut here and there just breaks it up a bit and gives you something to cut away to if there's a mistake in there.

This is an excellent vid and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have flown nitro helis for quite some time and still enjoyed it greatly and found it to be both insightful and informative. I would love to see more vids from the same people involved. Thank you very much for making and sharing!

As a electric only heli flier I could be way out but I thought the general set up method was to tune it without the governor turned on.

Two days since watching the vid but just occured to me..

Something else to think about when setting up a nitro and tuning it etc, and I've only fully grasped this myself recently thanks to Maj, is how important it is to get the maximum pitch balanced with the optimum engine rpm. It's easy to think that the engine is rich if it starts to bog down on climb outs etc and try and tune it out but you could be over pitching the blades or running the engine to slow/fast or a combination of both. Get the engine running in the optimum power band/Rev range and your heli could come properly on song and you might find your tuning was ok.
I usually run 14 degrees on my helis but have found that to be a negative on the nitros, great on electric though! Back the max pitch off a bit, 13 degrees now in my case, get the engine running at the right speed and you'll be surprised at how much difference this all makes.
Still learning myself but this above makes a HUGE difference.

On a side note about the vid I also commend the excellent taste in music, really good to hear "Squash that fly" by Fu Manchu, that totally put a smile on my face!

Asked Dave about this, and he said not. You want to run the engine in the way it is going to be used, so everything reaches the right operating temperatures and beds in nicely. If you don't hit your target headspeed when running in then the piston won't stretch fully and will not bed into the liner properly. The first few flights are ok at a slightly slower headspeed but after 3/4 flights we were up to our target (1960 gov'd).
