  • Oh for f... sake!!!!!

I went to test the new settings earlier, i spooled up to speed, went to add collective & it just tipped to the right & killed itself. The damage what i can see without stripping,
1 main grip, tail box, tail pully gear on the shaft, horizontal fin & bracket, 1 support, tail pitch control, tail blades a little nick so will be out of balance, main gear, belt, swash to grip links bent, 2 cyclic servo's all floppy (hope it's just the gears as i have a bag of them) & amazingly of all the blades are not marked?? bloody tuff them BBT Maniacs lol. I think i have most bits in my parts stash but either way i'm f....d off with this run of crap luck i'm having. The Vbar was working flawlessly on the bench

That is the worst thing about these FBL helicopters we fly these days, this never happened with a flybar (actually yes it did :-) to me once). Cold weather maybe? Or maybe the Vbar didn't initialize properly.

Paddy this is very frustrating hobby and like yourself I have been having lots of gremlins spoiling my flying recently and the weirdest of them all was last Thursday when a flybar paddle on my Mini Titan decided to let go mid-flight - whilst executing a turn at around 30 foot high. Somehow I saved her but the adrenlin was certainly running down my legs!!

My 450's and above are all still flybarred beasts as my pockets are not deep enough at the moment to invest in for flybarless heads and V bars etc and no doubt I will venture into that arena for my larger heli's in the future but it does seem to be a leap of faith every time you take off with them judging by my MCP-x and 130x experiences.

Hope the heli Gods grant you some good fortune soon.

Damn, that bites. I've never seen a grip broken off quite like that either.

Looking at the grip you'd think the blades would be damaged too but they're not even marked lol. They're just muddy & they really chewed up the ground. The canopy flew off without damage too & it appears a battery lead unplugged before i hit throttle hold & it all happened extremely quick, no warning or time to hit hold as you would if you see it begining to tip, it was just BAMM!!!!

Maybe just spool it up over the rev range with the blades off and watch the swash for random movements caused by vibes?
And after it has settled, wiggle the chopper about and make sure the swash is correcting in the proper direction, just to be sure it has initialised coirrectly.
                Always worth a check.

I have main grips, main gear, tail box & a boom support in my stash. Also i have just plugged the remaining servo into the other ports & no 3 has reversed itself? The other 2 work fine & so did that one before i put it the van. It's not something you can fail to notice when setting up lol. Thing is how could this happen in the first place? It just happens that that servo was the one i repaired but i don't see how that would reverse direction of the channel.

Sorry if stupid question - but you did remember to change your TX from 3-servo swash mixing from the flybar didn't you?

Servo's were full of karbonite lol, made a proper job of chewing the main gear up. At least they're still working now which is the big expense relieved from repair costs.

First rime I've heard of a suicidal heli dude ! Had it been feeling depressed lately ? Y'know moping around, grumbling about the crap weather etc. ?
Damage looks to be the usual agony of the hobby. Grit the teeth and rebuild and hope for the end of the bad luck vibes eh ?

Ha ha, I think electricsceadu was right about being punished by the flybar gods. Well it's almost rebuilt, main gear, belt pully, belt, grips, tail pitch control link, boom support, servo's all done. Just need tail blades, gear for the tail shaft & fins. Low expenditure repairs are always nice & stops you getting so down about a crash. I'll be flying again as fast as fast-lad can process the order
