There is the MSH Brain/IKON FBL unit as well. Probably not as sophisticated flying as the vBar units nor the same self-level/recovery features as the Helicommand/BD/Spirit FBL units but well worth a look as well, none-the-less.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days lived

After reading all the posts it has confirmed my initial thoughts and I think it will be a great help for me both psychologically and practically :-) . It will also allow me to enjoy part of the hobby I find most rewarding , Tweaking :-) .

I will do a little research on the BD unit as there is nothing worse than buying an out of date unit :-( although in this hobby everything goes out of date or fashion very quickly .

The spirit unit sounds interesting but I thought there was a supply issue . Thanks for all the replies guys .

They have proved to be very popular and they have had problems keeping them in stock.

Currently they are on about a 2 week lead time I believe, but they are now accepting back-orders so you don't have to camp out on the website to get one

I've got 5 spirits and they really are something. Only issue is connectivity is a little limited so means having to use Y leads but, honestly it's a small price to pay for something so good.

Even if the Demon were the same price as the Spirit I would not choose it over it. The support from Tomas is excellent, the unit flys beautifully and the rescue is a bonus and the Demon has had some reports of elevator bobble, though they are just posts on the internet for what that's worth.

I can usually get out of just about anything these days as long as I can see the model, for already accomplished pilots this is where it makes the difference, when you can't tell which way up or round it is the Spirit will save you.

You have to practice using the switch though. It's use needs to be internalised like the hold switch.
            Cheers

Ok guys , bought the demon unit last night straight from the manufactures web site ( big saving on uk store price) but after much research it would seem my old 1st gen dx7 is not really up to the task on a few issues . I have just hit the buy buton on a new dx7 and should receive both products next week.

I have really enjoyed the last few years glancing at the helis collecting dust with a rye smile they are in perfect flying form, and I have became attached from the spending bug, like most I have to many hobbies and the helis have tacken a back seat without much regret. Unfortunatley for me a good friend still flys so I have never been totally away from the hobby .
Any way, I find myself suddenly £550 poorer, and a hell of a lot of new hardware to learn, so should you find one day you glance at your helis with an inch of dust on them just walk on buy with the satisfaction and knowledge you have been there ,done that and have come out the other side intact

I'm still using the dx7 (first gen)
                  What problems did you have?

I'm also thinking of getting fbl with bailout, but the extra cost of a new transmitter would slow things down a bit.

The Spirit has two options for bail out. The first it will always right the heli to upright, then climb out and the second will go to either upright or inverted, which ever the helis orientation is closest to, then climb out

Don't forget to add Spartan Vortex, which is a cracking unit, to your list for consideration as they already have a nitro gov and currently have eGov in development which is available as a beta version of their software plus they are also working on a bail out system.

Angelos may be working on bailout for the vortex, but that is likely a long way off. I love the Vortex, but if you're going to pick a unit you need to choose it based on currently available features, rather than something that is coming out at some unknown time in the future.

Some people have been waiting for the Spartan eGov for years, and it's still only in Beta. Angelos is a firm believer in not releasing things until they are absolutely rock solid. The fact that the 'beta' release of the governor is being compared to vBar and Kontronik is testament to that, but it does mean the Spartan bailout could be a long time away.

Bavarian Demon 3SX is the way to go if you want a reliable recovery,
There is also a new unit coming out later this year still in testing by the Team but it will be very good and loads more options, the 3SX will not be obsolete when the new comes out, it's a great system and will still work as well as it does now! so a good investment

I use the BD3SX and only had to really use it once on one of my machines - but the overall fell of the BD3SX from my perspective suits the feel that I look for - vbar was lazy and not so direct, 3GX was direct but a pain to setup - cant say anything about other units as I didnt try them but my choice is sure the BD3SX and with the supply from Germany they are roughly £150 cheaper than at Fastlads ...
