So as a newb the lower power & higher flight time appeals , and the noise of it it has to be said !
All these BMW i8s kicking around .. I'd still have the old M6 5.0 V10 ;-)

after two years being all electric i just bought a 600 and 700 nitro, there is just something mesmerising about a running engine which you just cant get in an electric. by my flying style i seem to be getting worst ans worst with pitch control on electric dude to the raw power available.
go for it you wont regret it, i plan to keep both for now and just enjoy them all.Trex 700N LE FBL

just because kontronik stuff is insanely priced doesnt mean you cant get top stuff for a lot less than that . scorpion, xnova, castle all make great stuff(i would call it very decent at the least) even hobbyking electronics are getting good reviews and are probably more powerful than most nitro setups out there. a grand in fuel? id rather buy another heliOriginally posted by philipjdall View PostCome on mate, maybe if you buy cheap packs then yes.

Sure, there are cheaper options but to get the decent kit electric isn't cheap either.
Nevermind the amount of money I have spent on chargers and genny's.
and for a beginner, no way would i recommend getting a nitro, even just the tuning etc. electric is, setup once then charge and fly, simple.
dont want to have to retune every time the air density changes (which is a lot in the uk!) esp if im a new guy.

Cheap doesn't necessarily mean rubbish. I use Haiyin packs from Electriflyer which work well and are less than half the price of Opti's. Yes, Kosmic ESCs are good - definitely have the best governor. But for most people, Castle are perfectly adequate - especially if you use an external gov. My packs have been on storage charge since i got it and I'm not sure when i will fire them back up while I'm enjoying my Nitro as much as i am right now.

Only downside is…. and i know this seems to buck against the trend of what people say… but the cost is high if you fly a lot. Yes there are many upfront costs with electric. but once you have spent that money it stays spent and you just have to charge your packs up.
But a jug of fuel is £22. I usually fly 3 days a week, usually using 1 jug per session. So that is £64 a week in fuel…. every week… every month… every year. That is seriously going to rack up lol
Cant put a price on fun like that though
Plus my flying has improved dramatically since flying Nitro. Mainly down to much more practice time
Plus the much more dynamic power delivery has sharpened up my moves a lot. 7 to 8 mins of practice time at a very capable 3d head speed
To get that long with an electric you would have to drop the headspeed or be very conservative with the power
I'm really tempted to flog my Rush, but I can't bring myself to let it go...Harry

James I wouldn't take that as gospel mate!
Tom, I tried haiyins but mine puffed like a bunch of balloons after only a handful of flights. I may have been unlucky as I know a few people who rate them, but nowadays I live by the rule 'buy cheap buy twice'.

I think nitro is the way to go when you're learning but only if you fly with others that know what they're doing with nitro helis, it could be quite frustrating other wise. The extra flight time will be invaluable, buy a Trex 600 and OS50/55 and it will be super reliable and with softer learner set up will probably give you 15 min flights.
As for cost between the two Phil is right it's all bollocks, just fly whichever power plant you prefer and you'll not notice any difference and tbh if cost really is an issue then flying and being addicted to helis is the wrong thing to get into!

Agreed. I used to get 7.30 seconds on my E720 at a more moderate head speed practicing controlled circuits upright forwards and backwards, plus inverted forwards and backwards. I love both. There is no wrong or right IMO. People certainly shouldn't get too excited over singing the praises of one over the other. Everyones requirements are different and based on what THEY want out of their flying. It is very difficult to objectively compare the 2.
