Yep, glow engines (FWIW they don't run in 'nitro' the fuel is mainly methanol) can be a bit of a pain to set up, they can be highly temperamental. They can also be quite unreliable so auto rotation landings is something you need to be good at. Fuel is also frighteningly expensive, a gallon of 20% Nitro glow fuel cost about £25 or so. That will fill a 600 heli tank up ten times, so you could go through a gallon on a weekend easily, maybe more.

This makes LiPos seem pretty VERY cheap. A pair of LiPos for a 600 will set you back around £80 and give you a couple of hundred flights and cost pennies to charge.

Yeah Peteski your right .. Mind you at 2 him eying up my new DX8 is the main reason I invested in the case to keep it well protected! Ha

Grumpy - I know what your saying .. But Snowys 600 was Uba cool with the exhaust fumes just mulling out .. I'm just about hooked! Lipos are a life saver though these days with there outputs I guess there to be taken advantage of! ..

Quick one .. The 600 (elec) do you need to change both Lipos out every flight or just one as one is running the electronics as a nitro LiPo would so one will last a few flights ??

        Anth,
You change (or charge) the main flight batteries after every flight.
The downside of LiPo power is you don't get the flight duration that you can with glow power, but the upsides in cost and convenience more than make up for it.

I know where you are coming from, 'real' engines do have an attraction that electric can never have, especially to the petrol heads among us... but electric wins hands down for cost, convenience and reliability.

          Thanks grumpy ,

          So 600L will require x2 6S at about 3000-3500mah ..
Could anyone recommend a good Lipo for a 600 also just have a question on receiver for the heli .. This is seprate to me x4 servos/FBL/Gov/ .. Then I need my Reciever .. Could someone recommend one of this to go with the DX8

          thanks guys .

            What you need?

If you went for the 600L 'Super Combo' then it comes with all you need except batteries and receiver.

The best option on the receiver is to use a couple of satellite type receivers connected direct to the FBL controller, this gives a much neater and tidier installation. For Spektrum these days i use Lemon Rx satellite receivers which are not genuine Spektrum but are fully compatible and every bit as good, but much cheaper. These are they: Lemon Rx DSMX Comptaible Satellite (DSM2 backward compatible but must use DSMX primary receiver) (you need two)

The 600L uses HV servos so to power them you would want a 2s Lipo of 1800-2200mAh, just a cheap 20 or 25c one will do fine no need for high discharge rate.

For main flight batteries personally I go for the cheaper options, I've never seen the point in paying mega bucks for batteries. You get good bang for buck out of the Hobbyking Turnigy Blue 40c batteries: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...SortOrder=desc

The wiring is pretty straightforward, especially if you use the satellite receivers which reduce the wiring considerably. If you get the Trex the build manual is pretty good so covers just about everything. If you get stuck there is plenty of good advice to be had here, or even better if you have someone you can go to to get help with final setup.

Technically, the Blade 500x, 550x, 600x and 700x are not that different to their Trex equivalents.

The big difference though is that all the Blade helis mentioned above aren't produced anymore by Blade. Consequently, some stores are selling remaining stock at bargain prices. Otherwise, the 500x (which was a pre-built BNF heli) was OK, but used odd sized servos and had tail reliability issues. The 550X and 700x are good helis I think (but then I would say that! lol), certainly I like their flight characteristics.

Given their discontinued status now though, not sure I'd recommend any of them to somebody very new to the hobby.

At a guess, I'd say that will go for somewhere around the £600 to £800 mark. It's got decent servos, a Kontronic ESC, Scorpion motor. But it's an old style G700. Difficult to tell with ebay, but I'd guess somewhere in that range.
