  • NHP Tail Servo

    Hi Chaps

For the first time I'm fitting an NHP tail servo mount with Futaba 9404 servo to a Shuttle Plus with CSM HL200.

My question is about the servo mounting. I have noticed on this forum that people screw through from the reverse side mounting the supplied plastic clips against the servo's rubber mounts.

Does this mean that you do not use the brass eyelets but pass the plastic guides of the clips through the servo lugs? I guess the answer is yes as the screws don't pass through anyway but I thought I'd ask.

Or is this totally wrong and there is another way of mounting it? The instructions are not exactly clear

    Cheers

Not sure about this specific setup, but when I have used these plastic lug-things, I have used it behind the frame and passed the self tappers through fro the servo side so they go right through the servo holes and frame and bite on the lug-bracket thingy at the other side of the frame/mounting plate. obviousley the round lugs on the thingy must point outwards not in towards the hole if you use this method.
p.s., I LEFT THE EYELETS IN

      Dunno

Dunno, but I am planning to do the same when i get my new gyro/servo set up at the end of the month, post a couple of pics when your done, so I can see what your on about, and how to do it.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

      And a DX8 too

        Hi Chaps,

        The best way to secure a servo to a carbon base plate such as those used in many tail pushrod upgrades is as follows;

        1. Place the rubber dampers on the servo and place the brass sleeves in with the flat flange side towards the carbon plate side, normally the back of the servo.

        2. Place the servo up against the carbon plate, making sure the output shaft it either closest to or furthest from the tail, according to the instructions in the kit.

        3. Instert the self tapping screws in through the servo first and also through the hole in the carbon plate.

        4. Place the plastic retainer on the back of the carbon plate making sure the side with the shortest lugs faces in towards the carbon plate, then nip up the screws snug but not so tight that it compresses the rubber gromets on the servos too much. What you are looking for here is for the flat on the back of the screw head to locate snuggly against the brass sleeve. This will create a little sandwich between the flat already on the sleeve against the carbon plate and that of the back of the screw head with the rubber gromet in the middle. This will create a dampening effect protecting the servo from potential damage by issolating it from any vibrations the model may have

The same method of securing servos to a model should be used on all servos, so they are all protected from any vibrations that may occur. This is very important as a servo can be quickly damaged and potentially fail due to vibration.

        Cheers,

        Pete.

          Hi Chaps

          Many thanks for the replies.

The method described by Pete above is exactly how I have mounted the servo but as the instructions were a little sparse I thought I would check.

No probs. I'm hopefully moving to Bury St Edmunds shortly so if you fancy coming over for a look at the tail first hand then give us a shout.

          Cheers

Would like to, nice to put a face to a name. Let me know when you move in and we can sort something!

              Tail Servo

Have sourced a tail servo mount, (its a kyosho one for the Cali30 but the booms are the same size I did check first!) it was half the price of all the rest, and somebody I fly with has one fitted. Will not be fitting it for a couple of weeks as I have a busy schedule but will post pics when I do.
