  • Reflex XTR

I am seriously considering buying another Simulator... currently have Aerofly Pro (not Delux) which is ok but not a realistic as I would like. I have read a few reviews and comments etc and it looks like XTR is the one to go for...

I would like to be able to add models and possibly scenery as well, can XTR do this ? Also is the simulation of both fixed wing and XTR ok ?

Any advice on cheap placed to purchase it ? Most places seem to be about 120, I would like to get 2 cables, a round Futaba DIN and a Square Futaba (so I can use my FF9 and the old FF6).

Have found most usual sources are selling additional leads at 4.99 a time

Will investigate a german web site I used to obtain a huge number of Aerofly pro add-on aircraft and scenery. Hopefully this will have some

Will check this and report back later on...

          Rob,

I've been using XTR with my JR2610 and in a word - excellent.

I've loaded lots opf scenery, helis and fixed wing in and it's a pleasure to use. You'll need a pretty decent PC to run it at full tilit, but if you have it's worth every penny.

The only slight negative, it seems to have trouble recognising the adapter at times- but it can be sorted with a quick plug/unplug of the USB connector.

I used the Eolo Spirit model a lot when I was learning to fly my Hummingbird, and it really helped to get the hover and attitude alignment well.

          Have fun

ps - Now to build that X400!!!

            Hi Rob,

I think you have already come to the conclusion that there are other models and scenery available for XTR. On the site you have found there is also a free of charge demo version of XTR which you can download and run on your PC to make sure it is powerful enough to run it before you actually take the plunge and buy a copy. The demo comes with a few flight recordings so you also get a good idea of what it looks like and can do, you cant control it yourself though because you dont have the USB adaptor.

This may be a good idea as the software is very resource hungry and needs a pretty powerful PC to run it to its full capabilities. As a guideline, I have a P4 3.4Ghz with 1Gb Ram, 300 Gb SATA hard disk and a Sapphire ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256Mb video card, I am getting good results with XTR and the frame rate displayed at the bottom right corner of the screen is fairly consistent at 60 frames per second.

The download is about 40Mb so you will ideally need adsl connectivity to the web to make it viable. I think they will send out a cd if necessary.

            Cheers,

            Pete.

After trying the demo and proving that my PC was upto the task I took the plunge at Sandown and bought myself a copy.

What can I say... wow! seems to be very realistic, far more so that either of my other 2 sims (Truflight and Aerofly Pro).

Tried a few auto's but seem to be loosing too much head speed on the way down even with -ve pitch (guess about -4 degrees). Never had to do this for real but would be a good idea to at least have an idea...

FF9 uses the square buddy connector.
