Toy's doesn't bother me. If I was wealthy enough to own a fleet of Ferraris, I'd call those toys and they're just as deadly, if not more so.
Bird kind of annoys me, as I don't see the similarity. Fortunately I only ever see it on american forums, and I've never heard it in person.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.
Yes it probably is just me,, I'm one of them old gits you see on telly, oops I mean television
I think the only time I have heard 'bird' for a helicopter is on a Finless Bob video.

...hardly important. And yes it is a toy - a recreational playtime. Yes, golf clubs are toys too.
Perhaps one would like a more important sounding term: carbon based recreational downdraft reactionary rotating lift vehicle? Overpriced money sucking time passing digital reflex responder?
They might be expensive and deadly but they're still just toys.
To deny that is to add fuel to the fire of anyone who accuses us of being "just big kids" and makes us look petulant.
"chopper" feels bad perhaps because it's an old word and anyone who uses it is probably a layperson who knows little about the subject.
However "get too da chopp-aahhh" is an all time favourite line of mine so I cant think of it that harshly.
Bird, well, I occasionally use it along with heli and ship. They do fly and have bird like attributes, I bet nobody thinks twice about using the term "tail" boom or tail servo yet our mechanical flying machines do not posess a spine of which these components could be an extension.........
It's just the difference between people huh, some like marmite, some dont....
D

Yes, I think they are just "Toys" for grown ups and I cringe when I see them referred to as "birds", but I think that is a bit of an "americanism" only. The thing that really annoys me is when people post on here in some kind of pigeon english, foreign language slang
"Bird" annoys me too. I associate it more with Americans if I'm honest. Not many people on here calling them "Birds"…. unless they are wannabe septics…. but find that hard to believe lol.
