  • Training sticks...How long?

I know that you may think this should be in the training section but many will still be on the ping pongs and i wanted a longer view?. So, how long if at all did you stay on the training gear as i have heard from 1 month to 3 years. how long for you when you started?

    3 years!!!

I taught myself to fly on a raptor 30 many moons ago and used the sticks for 5 flights. Once you get the feel for how quickly things happen from you inputs and confirmation that the heli is generally set up correctly take em off. It was the Reflex XTR sim that made all the inputs second nature before I flew my heli for real. Lots of sim time for me was the key. I guess instead of length of time more accurately would be after how many flights did you take them off. Not that many will remember.

    That question made me reminisce.

Started with the trex 500 and was advised not to use at all so I didn't, best tip I was given was low headspeed and a curve in normal mode for pitch, once you can hover tail in on the sim and keep it in a small box then you should be fine and the rest comes naturally

I must admit 3 years made my jaw drop but atleast he was honest. he now is a very good flyer though. I thought he was joking but the others said he was doing loops with the thing but he just kept landing to hard and could not get to grips with that aspect of things but fair play atleast he kept going and it did save him a bit of money

I had them on for around 5 flights, once I got a feel for it off they came, Helis fly so much better without them even in the learning to hover stage.

I still use them now on new builds just to make sure all is well before ditching them off.

Once you can keep your 200 of the ground i dont think you'll need it for any other model.

Providing the settings are bang on though or you will need them. i just set mine as it came out of the box really which was pitch curve , expo mpre or less straight across the box . I found this so much easier than dilly dally around with the gear...25%...50%..75% etc etc
