  • The Cost Hobby?

I've just looked at the cost of flying RC Helis over the past 12 months & the cost!! Over £1200, this includes buying a heli plus parts.
and when you've crashed as much as me, you would be able to build another heli with the parts bought?
The wife would go mad seeing how much I spend on my hobby.
Ps: I don't crash as much now as when I first started, you tend to learn very quick because of the cost!!
After 4 years I should be an expert, NO! 3D is not my thing. Likes scale more relaxed.

Yes you are correct, this can be a very expensive hobby, we all seem to learn from our mistakes and at times it can be very costly. I'm no exception, just a few weeks ago I put 2 of my helis in and cost me the best part of £200 to fix them, but on the other hand, the fulfilment you get from this hobby in my opinion out weighs the cost, even the best pilots crash it's just part of out hobby.

I see so many people upgrading their specs and i guess when youre not flying youre tweaking and maintaining which personally is great

Even though the only brand new helis I've ever bought was my origional nano, a 130x and the hobbyking 450 airframe, I reckon I've spent the best part of £2000 including spares/repairs/batteries etc.

I'd hate to think how much it would have all cost me if I'd bought everything brand spankers!

i am beginning to find that if for instance you put a 450 in the ground then buy another 2nd hand and use the 1st for parts and then put that in the ground get another. You then stop with quite a few parts that will work out cheaper in the long run and possibly even get one back to scratch again....Still expensive but cheaper than buying a few links for £15!!

I dream of this hobby only costing £1200 and would like to know how you've managed to keep it so low!! Not trying to top trump anyone but I've spent more than that in the last month but couldn't give a number as I definitely don't add it up anymore and NEVER discuss it with my wife the fun sponge.

I massively second that lol…. £1200 is a cheap trip to Fast Lad lol . I literally don't add it up anymore at all. You can't put a price on this kind of quality wholesome fun…. who cares how much it costs…. I would much rather wear the smile on face and have heli's in the air than have the money in my pocket

Luckily my Mrs has her own very expensive pursuits, so we are both as bad as each other lol If I'm happy she is happy though… and vice versa.

Ill third that lol ! £1200 for the year how cheap is that, Iv had 28 different models over the last 6 years and the majority costing well over a grand to build, plus all the spares ive used, batteries, charges, transmitters etc etc. Good fun though and I still cant fly 3D lol !
