Well, another 550 shows itself and i think is this the MK4 ( i cant remember). I honestly have not looked up the difference between them but to be honest is it just all a gimmick to make more money

The new Trex 550L Dominator carries a range of improvements over the Pro DFC.

      New Swashplate
      New BL815H and BL855H Servos
      Gpro FBL Controller
      New Tail Fin
Carbon side frame plates utilize composite material integration technology, adding battery mounting rails
Innovative sliding battery tray rails imbedded into the 3K side frames
New Antirotation Guide inline with the 700E's
      New Canopy

      Etc Etc Etc

The whole style is more inline with the 700 series and brings in a range of features from that series. Certainly an epic model!

I'd be one of the first to criticize Align for their never ending stream of minor modifications, but in this case the changes are considerable and sensible.

It really is a significantly different heli this time.

The new Dom 550 is a whole new package rather than an evolution of the previous models. There'd be one on my shopping list if I didn't already have the previous version.

Does anyone no how they fly compared to older version or are they more like the 600pro now, reason i ask it just could not get along with the 600pro but loved my old 550v2

There are a lot of changes for sure, the new frame layout with underslung tray mounted battery and top mounted motor being the most obvious changes, but there are a lot of components carried over. From looking at photos:
                      • The head is the same
                      • The drive train all looks the same (main gear, auto gear, OWB, Torque tube drive gears)
                      • Entire boom and tail end all looks the same.

Generally this is a good thing as it keeps spares down, but I'd be a little concerned if they havent done anything to improve the front torque tube drive gears because they can be a real problem area on the current 550/600. Also it looks like the tail drive ratio is unchanged with still no option to run higher tail ratio, which is another common gripe with the current 550/600.

I wonder when they will release the 600 version? I'd guess it will be the same as the 550 but 12s power (and 600mm blades obviously)

I stood my 600 e pro next to Pepperpot's new 550 last week. They are quite similar in layout and there isn't too much difference in size. Really the new 550 is rather like a smaller version of the latest 700.

It looks as if there is room to get 12 cells in the battery tray.

I should think that, eventually, people will be putting 600 tail boom and blades on it.

If it shares the tail boom from the previous 550 then I believe it already has the 600 tail boom, they are apparently the same.

As i said in my last reply, i'm sure it's only a matter of time (and probably not much time) before an official 12s 600 Dominator is released to replace the current 600 Pro.

These are my to, align should of went from the trex v1 straight to this instead of all the little versions inbetween. Im glad the 550l is now officially running 550mm blades to. I can not fault the 550l though it is a really nice heli to fly
