Advice on New Sim.

Hi All,

I'm after a bit of advice on what sim to purchase.
I currently have Phoenix V5 but I can't get used to it,I find it a pain to set my Tranny and I get bored after a few minutes.
Now it may be my fault but I thought I would try another to see if I get on any better with that.
I am torn between the new kid on the block AccuRC and Real Flight 7.
Any views greatly appreciated.I don't want it for 3D just normal sports flying and orientation training.

But surely if your Tx is setup now thats it sorted isn't it. If you get bored with Phoenix then you're going to get bored with any sim I would have thought. Why not stick with what you've got and set yourself some goals

I certainly found RealFlight to be better than Phoenix in terms of keeping my interest, as the various training tools were a lot more fun than anything Phoenix had to offer.

Dave is right though, any sim is going to fail unless you have the will-power to actually just sit down and use it.

I found RF7 to be more inspiring to use than Phoenix. I hardly ever used Phoenix, but use RF fairly regularly.

Can't explain why, nor give a rational reason for it, but I suppose Phoenix never felt right to me and I always grew frustrated with it. RF7 felt much better right from the off.

As for AccuRC - I think the jury is still out, but now it's out in the real world, I am starting to read some less-than-stellar reports ... Never tried it myself though.

I have pheonix and neXt (neXt - CGM rc Heli Simulator) I find that next flies more like my actual models (More realistic) and is easier to setup than pheonix.

I think it's a generation thing, ive been in this game for donkeys years, and when the early sims came out they were really crap, now there just crap!, my boys fly phoenix and do well at it, fly for some 10 minutes like the pros before crashing! A friend of mine has Realflight, reckons it the bees knees, i flew it. well just as crap to me really.

It's a generation thing im sure, and if youre over 25 i think you need great discipline to make it a 'learning' tool.

If youre bored with any sim, then they will all bore you!!

they day they 'tag' a simulated model to youre credit card, will be the day it will become a proper (tool).

I first had Phoenix then I got RF7 and found things a bit harder (and so probably more realistic), but I have lent my RF7 to a couple of mates at SHH and they were not keen on RF7, its a very personal thing. As others have said, once your Tx is set up and saved all you need to do is select the correct programme (model) and go practice. My RF7 came with its own Tx which has it's pro's and cons, e.g. you save wear and tear on you "real" Tx, but the RF7 Tx doesn't quite "feel" the same, but certainly good enough to learn with.

You need to be sure you are in the mood because "practice makes permanent" NOT perfect, if you practice a bad thing it becomes just as ingrained (probably more lol) as a good thing does.

Keep at it mate, it is worth it even if it only teaches you how to get out of bad situations......
