In my experience it works perfectly ok, it's just a little less user friendly to set up than some.

It's not that the 3gx is 'bad' really. It's just that most of its competitor systems are much better and/or easier to set up. The 3gx is one of those bits of kit where if you can get it working first time with few issues then you're set to go otherwise you'll be cursing and swearing and throwing very heavy objects at it long before it will actually do anything useful.

I brought the 3gx mrs a month ago and tried setting it up on my 450 pro but ended up just chucking the heli and parts back in its case as for some reason I couldn't do it lol. My AR7200BX which I brought for my goblin was very simple even though it was my first time setting one of those up so id go for one of these instead or something along those lines

It can't be that bad Dunc has won comps with it and my mate Mike the oldest member in our club set one up on his 450 without any assistance and it flys well. The 3D God may find issue with it but I'm sure for sport flyers it works okay. Just be careful of tip overs the 3GX has a nasty habit of rolling over on the floor, ie sees an input tries to counteract doesn't see any rotation to the counteraction and promptly tips the swash all the way until it rolls over and you do a nice shiny new set of blades and stare at it incredulously

I think it's all about what your brought up with and what units are used at your club. I have only flown the 3gx a few times and found it ok, but since then I moved on to the BeastX and now I'm using the Vbar, which in my opinion is superb, but that's just my opinion and everyone has theirs. If you watch plenty of videos the Align factory pilots use the 3GX and they can make those helis talk, so they can't be that bad, it's all about how you set them up, let's face it Align have been in this game a very long time, so if you fancy one give it a go, then you can make your own mind up.

A cynic might make the observation that almost none of them actually use them day to day though, and almost never (if at all?) in competition ...

Absolutely without doubt Dunc has won using them, maybe with a CSM on the tail but then he's particular about pirouettes.

I have used my 3gx on 2 different helis and with 3 different firmware versions, I found 3.1 to be very nice but on my Gaui 425 the tail blew out when doing a static flip.

In version 4 the tail kept wagging constantly but it held a lot better, cyclics felt very nice.

Version 5 has made my Gaui feel very robotic and simulator like with a slight bounce on the stops but I am slowly working these out, overall though it feels very nice and with very fast cyclics.

Overall though I can say that as a sports flyer, the 3gx is just fine and has lots of parameters you can change to alter the feel. I will say for me personally I prefer the beastx on both feel and ease of setup but the 3gx is by no means bad.

Nothing at all wrong with 3GX
I fly Beastx on the 500 & VBar on my 550, my mate i fly with has the same Trex 550 V3 as mine but with 3GX on it, all i can say is.... i wish my heli was that locked in!
It's down to sticking with one FBL gyro & learning how to use it, something i don't tend to do

I found it a complete pain to get it setup correctly. It fly and was ok but couldn't get it locked in, where as the VX1n was spot on first time.
