  • Strange problem with headspeed doing its own thing!!

    Hi all,

Got a bit of a head scratcher.. while flying my 450 the other day which was recently fitted out with brand new lipos, castle esc and 6s dominator motor... the head speed just isnt staying constant..

And what I mean by that is I could just be hovering, then for no apparent reason at all you can hear the headspeed boost up.. do a tic tock say.. and the head speed will drop back down and stay down if you go into a hover.. then randomly in the flight it will boost back up again and we are talking considerable rpms not just slight bogging!!

Sometimes when doing the harder pitch moves it will really bog down quite badly.

When it was first fitted out the performance was awesome, but since its last crash this odd behaviour has developed. I have checked the obvious and cant spot anything wrong?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Matt

Its setup very simple with just a flat 100% throttle curve, no governor.

Are you absolutely sure you checked the settings in the castle software that you have not selected gov Matt ?

Or you could have your lvc too high

The ESC on my 450 used to change to a different setting by itself. I then had to re-programme it.
Align Trex 700XN VBar Neo with Pro Rescue
Align Trex 550 DFC VBar Neo with Pro Rescue and Current Sensor
Goblin 500 VBar Neo Pro and Current Sensor
        Trex 450 Dominator 3S

Dont rule out a bad connection, or 'dodgy' solder joint, between batts and esc.

          Seen this before.

ok so I checked and I am using set rpm gov mode - which is why my curves are flat 30, 70 and 100% for the three rpm settings.

                So why the problem?

I can only assume that for some reason the gov can't hold the higher head speed? Trouble is theres no data logging on this esc so can't tell for sure.

Did you change the Gov gain to see of it makes difference? You may have to increase it.

No I've left the gov and setup as is for now - all I've done is lower the low voltage cut off to see if that fixes the problem.

The issue is not that it is bogging - but the whole head speed drops and stays dropped - as if it can't maintain / going into a limp back home mode lol.

Will see how it performs next time, I have a feeling I may have tell the esc that the nominal pack voltage is higher than it is?

Mate, just make sure you did set up the esc properly.
Here are the instructions, in case you don't have them.
