  • T rex 450L or T rex 500

Am in limbo as to witch to get! Am looking to get one with low crash cost but still have the ability to allow me to advance my flying. I want to do a bit more 3d but not sure which one would give me the advantage to advance further.

Both great machines but which one would be the best?

What are you currently flying? It helps to know what you're moving on from.
Personally I'd go for the 500 as it's a little bit bigger, purchase and repair aren't that much more but it has a much better presence in the air.

i say go with the 500 dude you will progress much more than you would on a 450 due to the fact it has more presence in the air and it will be eaiser to learn 3D moves ,, a 450 is great down to crash cost etc but its nimble helicopter and may take longer to master a 3D move with the bigger the better i say

I had this dilemma 5 months ago. I went with the 500Pro DFC and love it. Crash costs are low. The only thing I would recommending to do is fit a full size tail servo (some modification to the frame required). I have a Align DS655M on mine and the tail is rock solid.

I personally love the way the 450l is put together so would, if your not in a hurry wait for the 500l to come out. Frames are more ridgid on the new dominator version and cyclics easy to get at as their mounted from the outside. Don't know when it'll be released though?

i see a 450 as a bit of fun nothing else its good for learning figure 8s hovering etc but once you start getting into 3D lark you will want to go bigger

My choice would be the 500 too. Had the pleasure of flying Rich23's 500 DFC over the last few weeks and bought one which I maidened yesterday. Great heli that I think will meet the criteria you're after regarding something to be more adventurous with.

Well I own both and I think the 6S 450L is a real live wire. Great fun, super fast and lovely to fly. But... it ain't no 500.

Put it this way, I warm up on the 450 and then move to the 500. Still make me grin EVERY time.

I, like you also fly a 700 and 550 (no 600 though!!) and was in a similar situation and went with a Gaui 425 which is basically the same size as a Trex 500.

It's just the right size to learn new stuff on while not being intimidating or expensive to crash, especially as the Gaui uses an all plastic main frame that costs a whopping £11 to replace!

Trex 150. In one piece and flying well........for now!!

450l! its a great machine, and bigger than the usual 450.

nice and stable for the beginner (like me) and hasn't quite got the lethality that a 500 could. and is a beast at 3d.

also the batteries are £30 for good quality Align 1450mah 6s.

if you have a 550 already, why bother with the very similar 500.
