  • How do you centre a servo after a repair?

I have just replace the gears in on of my Align DS15 servo and now I can't seem to get it a 90. Is it a case of just moving the gears inside until it is centred? is it a particular gear which you have to move?

    Hi

The servo centering for a perfect 90 degree servo horn is done in the FBL unit set up. You should rebuild the servo and then set the horn as close to 90 degrees as possible. Then adjust it to 90 degrees within the FBL setup. What FBL unit are you using?

I'm not familiar with the V5 3GX unit but I'm sure Coolice or Tomatwalden, or other 3GX users, will be able to help you better than I can with this.

From what I can remember its in the DIR settings step 1.3 and then you use the transmitter subtrims to move the servo to get the 90 degrees. If you run into trouble I'm sure a PM to coolice or tom will help get it sorted.

        Hope this helps

I did get it at 90 with the subtrim but I had to use an awful lot, and as a result I have lost some travel on the servo. I have also tried a couple of different servo horns but with the same result so I was wondering if it could be centred by moving the gears and if so which gear, this was I could use less subtrim which should mean I would get full travel back.

I see what you mean. You can adjust the gears to get it closer but its a pain in the butt. I rebuilt one of my DS515M servos and moved the final gear (the one with the horn splines on) until I was happy with the position. All I did was centre the servo with the FBL unit/servo tester, then unplug it, adjust and repeat. If that doesn't work try another smaller gear until your happy.

              Hope this helps

To adjust the final gear do you just pull it off as I have seen a video on you tube where someone is adjusting the pot with pliers?

Mine just pulled off by hand. If you need to use pliers obviously be carefully of the gears.

Also, I'm not familiar with the 3GX, but with most FBL controllers you should not be using any sub trim / trim from the Tx itself.

If you don't use sub trim how do you get the servo at 90?

                        I've only ever used the 3gx .

                          Hi

It is correct to use sub trim on the 3GX to get your 90 degrees. Most other FBL units you adjust in the setup software. I think the 3GX is unique with this.
