  • Opinions on my setup - LIFE battery

    Hi!

I am currently fitting my Trex 600N with a regulator free setup and need your help how I do this best. My plan is to use Y-harness like this one:

Frlngningskabel. Y-kabel. Futaba. 150mm. hos Kullagergrossisten

I will then put one of the leads into the RX and in the other two ends I will solder on an EC3 to connect the LIFE battery and in the other connection I will attached the Optipower Optiguard that I will use as a backup. Is this a good solution or can I do it in any other way?

    Thanks!

Just make sure you've got an OptiGuard with the latest firmware that supports direct LIPO and/or LIFE batteries without a regulator. Prior versions were programmed to assume a flat voltage from a reg or BEC, whereas direct batteries obviously have a degrading voltage level ...

How do I check this? I just purchased it brand new so I assume it has the latest software....

My suggestion would be to have two connections going from your LiFe pack into the Vortex and have a Y cable on one of those to the Opti guard. I always try to have some redundancy and avoid a potential single failure point.

So I would have two cables, one just a plain servo lead and one Y lead, both would be soldered into an EC3 on one end for the LiFe pack then one would go into an open channel on the VX1 and the other would go into the Datapod channel and the other end of the Y lead would go to the Optiguard. (or one heavier cable with the EC3 that splits into two servo leads and run a Y off one of them, this is what I did on a heli not long ago where I was going all HV using a 2s LiPo)

Not sure, give Opti a call. I believe there is a difference but not sure .
