  • Gutted Fire !

Anyone had dealings with insurance companies with claims over there helis due to fire/smoke damage
All my helis + chargers/batterys and other heli related items to numerous to mention have suffered damage in a fire in my spare bedroom
    yesterday.
Had the insurance assessor out today and hope to start clean out and itemising next week how do I work out what they are worth !
Looks like the fire started due to a over heated lipo on a shelve which had the sunshine on it through the bedroom window and burst into flames
Thank heaven no one was hurt and the fire went out on its own I will post some pics later as im still gutted !

Very sorry to hear this. As you rightly say at least no one was hurt. Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Regards,

    Mark.

Ouch- by the sounds of it could have been so much worse. Hope everything works out ok, I think if your straight with the insurance you should be ok but would be a good idea to check all the small print on your particular policy.

Bloody hell mate not good as long as no one has been hurt. We had a member lose his Raptor whilst charging in his garage and the insurance paid out no problems, I don't know the ins and outs of the claim though.

Again ..so long as no-one is hurt it's a chore and an expense..

How you deal with thinsg depends a bit on fine terms of your insurance and the attitude of the insurers. I'd suggest you simply ask them how they wish you to asses the helis... either full replacement value, second hand value (depending on age etc) or repair cost using equivelent items. Bear in mind that often items as expensive as a quality heli should have been listed seperately on the insurance with their value to be insured - you may need to refer to that when working things out.

Insurance states remote control/battery powered are covered don't know yet if there is a limit on claim.
Still have my E700 which was down stairs with the tranny and 2packs but no chargers !

Glad you were all ok. Having been in a house fire it can really knock your confidence especially when the presumed cause is something we all keep in our houses. Mine was from an electrical fault in a table lamp which took the entire top floor of my house. Luckily we were all downstairs and no one was hurt!!

Here's to someone in inventing an affordable and safer battery technology ASAP!!

I would do the inventory for your RC gear as an itemised list of components .. ie break the heli into bits you'd put in a shopping basket at a shop..

So airframe kit, servo's, ESC, FBL, blades etc etc

That way it keeps it below single-item limit and its not like you can (in general) replace as a single purchase (unless its a super-combo)

I had a set of camera gear damaged (lenses, bodies etc) and i did the same and ended up getting asking prices for each item no questions asked .... they initially said they'd buy me like-for-like at Currys (their preferred supplier) until i gave them the list and they realised it wasn't possible.... they just ended up giving me a cheque for the amount i asked for (supplied original invoices etc)

Go for everything new, if not ask the assessor to guarantee that nothing will malfunction due to heat damage, and will they cover it in the event of it malfunctioning during its use this is something they will not be able to do. If you have any complaint go to the insurance ombudsman and quote from the policy and the TCF website also those who shout loudest get the results

Just out of interest, was this lipo on charge? Or hot from just having been charged?
Or just sitting on the shelf in the sun?
Thanks. This is making me reconsider how I keep mine TBH.

I store and charge mine in a metal cupboard in the garage. I can't believe I used to charge in my spare room sometimes overnight, scary or what.
