Rapid RC?

I purchased 2x Turnigy LiPo's for my trex 700 from Rapid RC, ( £156 ) they arrived and both lipo's had poorly soldered bullet connectors on! I know Turnigy wouldn't have done this, both lipo's had the cell voltage's hand writen on the boxes they came it.

I just put both lipo's on the PL8 at 1.0a charge, 10 minutes later one of the lipo's was well hot, I have taken both off charge.

Has anyone else had dealings with Rapid RC cause I think I got sold used lipo's!

Can I ask why you did not buy direct from Hobbyking? I have 3 sets for my 700e which cost me £88 for 2, these are 5000mh 40c. They all work very well and charge with no problem. The price has no postage charges
as I live close to their UK warehouse and pick up and check these myself.....

Cause Hobby king didn't have any in stock at uk warehouse, I did a seach on line and Rapid rc came up first

The last 2 I bought just before Easter was I think their last stock, so they should soon have new stock. I know this does not help you now.......
My batteries came with the same bullet connectors as in the picture on Rapid site, but I just cut these off with out looking at the soldering
and put ec5's on. Regarding the writing on the box it could be Rapid wrote this info on as there is no hand writing on my box's....

Got reply from Rapid RC offering full refund, fair play, but he is saying you can ONLY charge 5000 6S 40c lipos seperatly!

That will take all day with 6x 5000 lipo's

His reply.................

if you are using one board to charge all 6 lipos at bonce this is not good for high amp age lipos
you find you have a low resistance lipo and it will not charge up and you will end up boiling the chemicals in side the lipo .
so please send both the lipo back and we will refund you payment as 6 cell 40 c rated lipos need to be charged
at 3 amp plus and charged separately not with other lipo .
we will not be able to guarantee the lipos if you charge them this way.

please do not charge the lipos this way and send both lipos back for a refund all you will do is one lipo will be full charged and the others will not be and the charge will keep on charging until the all the lipos are charged and you will end up with a lipo getting very hot and it will go up in smoke
so please send the lipos back to us for a refund asap be for you hurt you self.

Glad to hear you are getting a refund but not entirely sure I believe the advice to charge separately. I like many others regularly charge 2500mAh 6S batteries at 2C, the same high current you would of used for a 1C charge with no problems, a low resistance cell would charge first not last and would stop charging and wait for the others to catch up as it's voltage approached the charging voltage. High resistance cells are the problem, the high resistance causes them to get hot.


Did you check the internal resistance before the first charge, you probably had a high cell.

I think you'll find the PL8 will reduce the current appropriately if the packs are not accepting current in the time that it's expecting. I've had packs with very high IR which will charge it just takes longer but no risk of the pack cooking. I don't think their advice is correct but fair play for offering a refund
