  • Different way of thinking

I took my Raptor 50se out this morning and although I've had an engine fail during todays fly, I am quite please that she landed nearly as softly when under power
I had been up for about 5 minutes when a sharp clonk sound came from the engine then it stopped 25ft up. I auto'd safely with a grin on my face thinking? I didn't panic or freeze I just got on with it job done
Since I've adopted a different attitude to (oh well, it's crashed) I which i got.from here, thank you very much. I seem to be keeping it together when it counts as best as can.
    Works too.

Hope the engine is OK. I think I know where you're coming from in that I remember a time when in most flights I would have a moment of mild panic, just getting disoriented or trying something and ending up in a very squirrelly situation. And then slowly, over time, I had less and less of those moments. Another 'aha' moment for me was realising I was able to think fast enough to make minor corrections within a maneuver, like keeping the path of a loop exit the same as the entry, as opposed to a time when I'd just pull back on the elevator and hope for the best .

Hello Trillian. Well I tried to turn over the engine and it didn't happen so I stripped it apart and found this little lot of bits.
There doesn't seem to be any other damage other than the conrod. Not sure why not though. I have cleaned up the knuckle on the crank shaft and it looks ok.
I think I can get away with just replacing the conrod, connecting pin and retaining springs.

Well I had a go at doing some loops with my Blade 450 a while ago and I know what you mean about being able to exit the loop along the same path. I unfortunately am still at the pull be and hope for the best, but practice makes for better flying. Well I hope so anyway!!!

      Cheers
