  • how do i balance a 7S battery on iCharger

    Hi,

I have an iCharger duo 4010 and I wondered whats the correct way to plug a 7S LiPO it into the balance board.
The batterys have 2 JST plugs, one 4s and one 3s.
    Cheers

Just to check, is it 2 separate batteries you are trying to charge?

Not sure. Is it wired as one battery? If so you need to either get a 4/3 female to 7 cell male balance lead observing the polarities, or a balance board that has up to 7s capacity. Does one plug have a red wire one side and the other plug have a black on one side?

Sounds like thunder power connectors ?
so you'll need a thunder power balance board , and they will plug next to each other probably be mark 6-8s

I'm about to start running 14S.

Each pack is wired as 7S as far as I am aware.

Its definitely not thunder power type connectors, it is JST-HX (the normal ones)

Looking at those they look like the turnigy lite plugs . I converted mine to a single 7 S balance plug. You can remove each pin and replace them into the 7 s plug, but you need to leave one out ( tape it up) use a multimeter to get it right, but iirc it was the first negative off the smaller plug

Where can I find 7S plugs.
Secondly where can I find a 10s to 7s converter so I can plug it into my charger.

I knew this was going to be a pain

Ok that balance board different to my pl6 !
                  found this ?
Plugging into the iChargers balance port, this board can accommodate any 2 cell (2s) to 10 cell (10s) battery with JST-HX balance leads.
                  Sockets: 2s x 3 - 3s x 3 - 4s x 2 - 5s x 2 - 6s x 3. Sockets on each row can be combined for series charging or for larger celled battery packs.

Trouble is not sure how to plug the thing in if using the original board.
Will call electriflyer tomorrow who supplied it.

Think swapping it over a single 7s JST-HX connector is the way forward and making up a 6 battery parallel lead too.

Nothing with heli's thats worth doing is ever straight forward.

Can't wait to try the gobby with 14S..........

If you plug it straight in to a balance board that is set up to charge only 1 pack at a time it will blow all the pins in the balance board. (Ask me how I know) I have some 8s packs set up with 5s and 3s balance leads. I bought the balance lead for my pl8 and wired the the end up with female connectors. It was very easy and all you do is make sure you start at the red lead end. Then the last pin on one connector just loops in to the first pin on the next one.
Hope that makes sense. I can take a picture when im home tonight

                          Hi,

A picture would be great so I can see it.

                          Thanks

                            Hi,
                            DSCF4520.jpg
This is how I've got my 7cell pack balance leads. I've replaced the 3 and 4 jst connector with a single 8 pin (for 7cells) connector - available from this trusted supplier.
JST-XH connector plug (Male, Female, Crimps) Lipo 7s Balance Extension 8 PIN PCB | eBay

You'll have to carefully remove ONE BY ONE each pin out of the original connector and insert in the 8 pin connector, omitting the black balance lead coming from cell 4. I've folded it back and heat shrinked it safe. I use a Hyperion 720 Duo that comes with 8 pin balance boards. It all works a charm.

                            Hope this helps, Marty

Hey ditonics, looking at the balance board, it's a 10 cell board, so the the first column of plugs do 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s the next row means you can bump it up to a 4s + 2/3s or 5s + 2/3s or 6s + 2/3s. So you can plug in your 4s in row one and 3s in row 2. Please get this confirmed before you go charging.
