  • I am a v lucky man

Well was having a brillient day flying today, flown all the helis once and was flying the 600 Nitro the second time.
Had just flipped it over into an inverted hover about 20 foot high and all of a suddern the engine went silent.
Some how i managed to flip it over and land, well i say land, a controlled crash is more like it as i had no forward or backward momentum, came down bounced back up and landed, tipping right at the end and resting on the blade like a side stand
Anyway on first inspection everything looked ok.
Got it home, checked every thing over, cleaned and there is no damage what so ever, even had it back up and running at home.
The cause, ran out of fuel, Boy i need a header tank

Been there and nearly done that.. So I have a quick UK header tank just because ...Align's new tanks are almost clear now so you can see the fuel level more clearly... You must have been having a good time though not to notice it

Thanks guys, yeh was having a hell of a time, managing to string all moves together now and was just going a bit nuts, plus those new v-blades i have on now are the mutts, so much punch it's unreal and the sound they make is to die for, did do a fly by just to check fuel level but then got a bit carried away again, next time i will be a bit more causious.

I got a raptor header tank with my 600n pro, and after faffing about wondering how to mount the bracket on the 600 frame I stuck it on the side of the main tank with servo tape and put a cable tie round the lot. works fine.
I'm glad I fitted a header tank because the 600n tank isn't all that big.

Unlucky running out of fuel when inverted - glad to hear you you got it the right way (technically you did an inverted auto )

Amazing weather today, got loads of flights in on my 450 and 600N.

My day ended far from ideal also - I had a mid-air boom strike - first crash of my 600 Not 100% sure, but I think it happened because a link popped/broke off while pulling up - it just went BANG for no apparent reason and then vibrated itself down in many different pieces. The boom wrapped around the blade, and proceeded to whack the radio tray at the front (interestegly after the canopy flew off), mashing the battery and breaking the front of both frames (ripped the tray off).

This was all damage before hitting the ground... and when it hit the ground it sheered my receiver apart bending all the pins and disconnecting all the wires from it (this may have been when the blade hit the tray). Fotunately I was on thr-hold by this time so didn't get a funky chicken (stopped the engine by putting fuel tube clip on). Could have been far worse - luckily I wasn't going fast or towards anyone.

One of the blade grips had actually managed to twist 180 degrees, over the head button - utterly amazing the forces involved, especially the damage to the boom (it's just bent in half like a plastic straw). On the plus side the GY611 and GV-1 units in the tray avoided damage.

Still, it's all part of the [expensive] fun.

well done mate for rescuing the situation. Thing is i'm relying on you to show me the ropes and with that comes a level of responsibility!!! You showed me how to fill the tank not empty it mid air upside down, surely thats not the way forward bro!!! LOL

                      Nice rescue
Might be worth mentioning that the header tank is intended to help prevent air-bubbles getting to the carburettor rather than increasing the amount of fuel for use in the flight. Of course, it acheives both of these

Also worth noting, the Trex600 fuel tank (440cc) is bigger than the Raptor 50 extra large fuel tank (400cc).

Setting the Tx timer is a good option too
                      Cheers,

Yeh timer might be a good idea, just unlucky i was upside down at the time, right way up i am fine with, anyway all worked out ok, like demonjim's take that it is the first inverted auto, not sure this is the way to do it mind.
Just need to be a little more carefull of the fuel ammount, was just having to much fun.

Yes, the 600n I think should come with a fuel magnet thingy, or a header tank. With neither I wouldn't call it "3d ready", i'd call it "auto ready"
The adavantage of the header tank is you can see staight away if it is full, if anything is up with the lines in the main tank you may well spot the header tank emptying before you go 3D, and when the main tank empties you can usually tell that on the header only it runs a little richer.

The raptor 50 has a 30 size tank! But I fitted a raptor 60 tank to mine and it flies quite a while now
