Alas, my next post may sound arrogant, and holier-than-thou, something it's not meant as.

But, after you've done a reinstall, maybe it's time to get an external disk and get serious on making backups?

I'm sorry. I know how frustrating it is to reinstall a laptop. If it's any consolation, my laptop is prolly more of a nightmare reinstallwise than yours (250gb disk, cluttered with apps, customized installation based on OEM vista ultimate/64. Takes a bloody week to get right, with all my apps installed where I want them.)

As for the suggestion from Raptorheli2, that would have been my next suggestion, right after the "replace driver" test. And the sonic package does explain a lot. Have you tried removing _ALL_ traces of sonic software from your machine? (I know of this sonic thing. It ships on the default Thinkpad images. There's a reason I'm running a custom installjob: I enjoy a laptop that actually works.)

Sonic makes those filters look like a medium-sized Tom Clancy book. It's usually less of a job to reinstall, than to manually clean up the mess it creates. (And yes, sonic has the bad habit of nuking your restore-points when being installed, because they can't understand why ANYONE would want to remove their software. They're worse than Symantec.)

I'm truly sorry for you, and for the job you have ahead of you.

I would suggest BILLING sonic for the time it takes you to clean up their mess.

i agree, you NEED to delete these filters. i'm 99% this will fix your problem as the registry has grasped onto these other drivers. the deleting them and reboot installs the originals again. take the time in the registry and find them. it won't take long as they are in numerical order.

      cheers
