  • I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks this is appropriate needs help...

I've heard of some people who do without threadlock all together, but those who do you use it have advised me to use a tiny amount on the end of the thread, and then not to over-tighten the screw.

Well, the guy I bought this Heli off, obviously had heard the opposite advice...

In anticipation for more stripped heads... I went out to buy a Dremel. And this was the result.

I very nearly didn't get away with it, as the screw heads are so damned small and the cutting disk, actually pretty big. Anyone know if you can get thinner cutting disks than the ones supplied as standard with a Dremel kit?

The irony of the situation is, about two flights ago, I had my blades fling themselves off while spooling up....... he hadn't loctited the screws on the feathering shaft!

My bad though, I shouldn't have assumed he had, I should have checked.

Lesson learnt. I will NEVER buy a second-hand airframe again!

Most will say you should always check a second hand heli but I have been guilty of not doing that but then most of the time I buy from people I know but still, assumption is the mother of all f*** hp's.

You were very lucky as you know

The only heli I have heard where you do not need loctite is the TDR and thats only on certain parts. I still did use loctite however.

Always use Loctite imho Cant go wrong then.

      Yeah I should have checked.

Being new to Heli's I was reluctant to strip the whole thing, as I worried I'd never be able to put it back together in a working state!

But yeah, I always loctite now, with a very small amount lol.

      Cheers

Only the end few threads is needed with the tiniest amount and not a dollop of it either.

Many do use miles to much. I have had that buying second hand and its a right royal pita.

Not only do the majority of hobbyists use way to much locktight they lean on small screws like they are doing up a scammel wheel nut!

Welcome to the learning curve. You only get experience by doing it. Buying second hand is fine - so long as you make the allowances for trouble, time and cost and pay accordingly.

Every 2nd hand airframe i've bought has come with problems. Some problems can be bigger than others but sometimes I think it isnt worth it, then go and buy another one lol.

Yeah don't use bearing retainer as thread lock. That is definitely a game over situation.
