X4 II has a new frame and uses most of the components that the X5 Formula does (including power),
the biggest advantage over the older X4 IMO is the battery placement.
X4 II will be able to fly a wider range of lipos including 5000mah!

the X5 as Ade mentioned is a good sized heli and it is worth considering, but the new designed frame on the X4 II is very tempting

forgot to mention, the X4II will only need the X5 boom/torque tube and servo pushrod to swing 500/520 blades, so it will open up the choices a bit...

                Hi Ollie,

I am building one at the moment, as I won in it the Fastlad Christmas comp.
I am pleased with the quality of part particularly the Carbon parts & it is a cut above Align no doubt.

The original X4 is a slightly odd design with two stage gear reducton, & is derived from the Hurricane transmittion.
Aparantly people have had problems with the one-way bearing which is on the second stage shaft & sees greater rpm than on a more typical layout.
I also think the X4 design isn't being stocked by many shops (as the X4II is out) so the non common parts may start to get scarce also.
As a result I wouldn't probably recommend it (but it is a nice heli though), I would suggest getting the X4II or the X5.

From what I can tell the X5 parts are cheaper, even if the kit might be a little more.

                Tim.

thanks for that I was thinking the same regarding the parts. I might just wait to see what other deals fastlads and midland will do as I am no hurry at the moment.
                  thanks
