Really big thanks to the guys at DMHC for a nice days flying down there.
The site is an unusual layout with fence in front of the flight line and the ground rising in front of you but its flyable and one of the few places you can fly a nitro heli in the bournemouth and poole area.
Nice to see some definite improvement in skills of the old hands especially chrisb and Ian, both have come on a lot since I quite.
I spent some time tweaking the vortex setup a little... when I say i spent some time... i mean I changed some settings to fine tune it after each flight. This got rid of a little bounce on the elevator as well as finding the limits of my current setup. Doing massively big loops using full collective I could provoke it to pitch up. I have backed off the collective a little as I think i had a little too much anyway and reset the swash limits as I only had a limited amount of forwards elevator available at max pitch.
I feel like im a bit low on tail power, Im not sure if im just imagining it but upright, anticlockwise funnels which is about the worst case scenario for a tail it needs lots and lots of power. I am finding the limit of tail power much earlier than I think I should be. Maybe im looking at the old days with rose tinted glasses but im sure i could get the model going faster in a funnel before running out of tail power. the tail blades on it are the stock plastic 82mm ones, apparently, 90mm fit the Gaui X5 so I am now on the look out for some.
Its nice to see the spartan still handles that situation perfectly. Its really no drama when the tail runs out of power the spartan lets the tail move (slowly) to where there is enough tail power to hold it. It doesnt give up, its very predictable and easy to hold it right on the limit of tail power. Some of them used to do all sorts of scary things in that situation.
we did get some video but I neglected to learn how to use the new camera app I was trying, what I thought was the auto focus lock wasnt... we got some more fuzzy dots flying around to an extent :-(
