I hate hearing about things like that.

On a related subject, did they ever say what the problem was with the EC145 that went into the roof of the pub in Scotland?

These pave hawks fly a lot over the Norfh Norfolk coast vey often right over my house a low level.
When I was at sea you could see them about 6 miles offshore they drop targets in the water and then use them for target practice. Sometimes so close you could see the splash of the bullets in the water.

Sad news indeed. It's weird because the heli looks so intact. Even the main and tail rotors appear undamaged. It looks just like the gear and refuelling probe was damaged but of course we don't know what damaged occurred inside. Seems very unlucky though. People have walked away from far worse.

I think the helicopter had substantial damage as it says the wreckage was scattered over an area the size of a football pitch so highly unlikely that the blades etc weren't damaged. I think you are looking at the other helicopter that set down in the same area to aid in assistance to the other downed heli, the heli in that picture isn't the one that crashed, but the other one that was nearby when the incident happened. The heli that crashed you can't see as there isn't much left of it mate and it's scattered all over the place.

That isnt the crashed heli greg. The wreckage is spread over an area of around 100 mtrs and is unrecognisable.( sky news footage). Another US navy helicopter has gone down in Louisiana tonight with one confirmed death ,one missing and four rescued.

                    Ah, ok. That makes sense

Edit: Yeah, seen the video now and it's total devastation. The MSN website just showed the intact heli on their main article making me wonder

Wow very sad to read this. It's very rare for a military aircraft to go down, the crew are all very well trained and as my 12 years in the RAF has taught me the equipment is so incredibly over-serviced that failures are rare.

Nop had 90 litres left I read which was low but enough fuel to get bsck to base, it's still got them stumped I think as at least 1 gearbox was running & engine all ok, props intact upon impact so very strange...

                            Glasgow crash

It's base was 3 miles away from the crash site , 90 litres is a splash in the bottom of that heli , especially if it's banked , I am a local pilot and one of my flying comrades a retired cop was with the heli squad for years , and as I said the word out up here is it was most likely fuel related ,they might be wrong , they didn't ground them which my be a hint , we will have to wait for the aaib report , kenny d
