and your going to have to do a lot of hours on Google help outs to get a decent days flying in..
+1 its not the cost its personal preference....if you break it down to pence, its like saying dont buy a gobber crash costs are more.both have there own plus and minus and id guess over a year there isnt that much in it either way....good post though should generate a good disscusion

I wasn't but one could also argue a 'just engines' .52 and run it on 15% at low headspeed if'n ya wants to play....

And just as it's easy to get involved with the flight and forget to listen out for a lean engine it's easy to get too involved in a flight and puff the lipos cos you miss the alarm.

It's the same old endless debate. For me I favour the nitro 'cos I don't have to wait and pre charge packs before going flying except with my 500 - and more times than I'd like the weather's turned sour and I've put 'em back to store (or dinged it on the first pack and discharged the other 5).

Over the years i certainly burned up some engines..but then I've also had a few motors and escs destroy themselves. The old 600L was a classic for exploding in flight as well as puffing packs. Things change but the easy answer is have them all

          +2..
It's like buying a new car.. you don't look at the lowest MPG then say that's the one to have...
          You buy the car that..
          1. caters for your needs,
          2. fits your budget,
          3. looks etc..
          Not the cheapest to run..

seems like a lot of old question are be brought up as new threads time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time.. and...again....
we even have a new nitro v's leccy thread,,,,
it's a New Year,,, come ,,,, New topics,,,

I think it's impossible to put a cost on it as there are just to many variables but on top of that what does it matter? Just buy what you like and fly it and if cost is an issue then buy a 130x as they're cheap to run!

If you treat your batteries right then I can't see electric being more expensive. Especially with good quality but cheaper batteries. I still have turnigy batteries with hundreds of flights that still perform well (although slightly puffed).

You can also fly much smaller and cheaper electric than nitro which although this loses the comparison element of the discussion does prove you can significantly reduce the cost of flying electric vs nitro. Importantly this broadens the scope of the hobby and means that people without deep wallets can learn to fly.

Yes looking at it in Hobbycraft today actually

Anyway a good ponder of a thread, but too many variables for me.

I like flying Electric and the cost compared to anything else is irrelevent to me as its the choice ive made.

                            Again good thread though.

I think the BMFA are updating their guidelines on silent flight as it was never meant for newer E models that are flown today...I would be surprised if 90 sized helis or big fixed wing models still come into their silent flight category after the update...nothing worse than a screaming nitro engine disturbing the peace but with helis that is rare...I would not change from nitro too electric too suit the field either...It would be easier too find another field "a lot easier"...as for what cost the most its all a bottomless pit whether nitro or electric and I put my hands together too anyone who puts his money into one of our machines and goes out and flies it...
Heli central...Basildon RC helis...strictly helis only...

Electric guys, I need some info,

How many cycles do you get out of your packs?
                                Do you own a generator?
                                How much does it cost
How much fuel does it use?
How much does a decent charger cost these days?
                                How long do motors last?
                                Flight Time still around 4.5mins?

                                Nitro guys,

                                Cost of 30% fuel?
How long do engines and their bearings last?

Hey Ade, ever regret asking a simple question?

I bet after your time away you had forgotten how a forum collective can take your original post, twist it and then thrust opinions upon you about something that you didn't even say.

                                Genius stuff, people.
