Interesting that most have are mode 2 as Southamton used to be majority mode 1, myself and Jamie are both mode one, he had to be as I taught him back in the day when TX's weren't mode swappable the only place I could find a second hand heli set (cause I couldn't afford a new one) was at Solent Models it was a JR Apex and I still have it in the cupboard.

We are exorcising the wierdo's out LOL, just Mattie and Ray to convert then we can all relax, although watching Matt fly it can't be that weird, can it?

          Not weird at all.

Dunkan Bossion and brother Jonathon both fly mode 1 as does Align factory pilot Kenny Ko, Dave Fisher from the UK, 99% of the Asian pilots are mode1 too along with the Australians..

Last but not least we all fly mode 1 at Stainburn heli club. Call us weird if you like.

I picked up my first aircraft tx in London in my teens, even though I come from here. I think a lot of people learn with bind and fully stuff these days where mode 2 is the norm.

Mode 1 has never made sense to me for helis, nor fixed wing as I see the right stick as being the control in the aircraft

Tim, didn't know you flew mode 1up there, nice to know though. Jamie can fly mode two but gets a bit sticky in an emergency I.e reverts to mode one. Don't think I could change if you paid me.

i started mode 2 fixed wing
and mode 1 heli (as thats what the tx was that came with the first heli i had and the plank radio wouldn't do helis)
i now only fly mode 2

                  Couldn't agree more.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

Makes sense to me as I read David Boddintons book at the start of the eighties and he flew mode one, so I bought my radio before I ever joined a club and guess what, they all flew mode two, but I couldn't afford to change my radio, broke the bank buying it at the time, so struggled along trying to fly mode one without a lot of tuition or help. Ten years later at the start of the nineties struggled even more to learn helis with not much tuition, that's why Jamie has taught Arron to fly mode two, but as I said earlier, to old to swap now

To be honest I don't think it makes a difference if you are mode 1 2 3 or 4.

As you all know I fly mode 1 which was born to me when I used to fly 2ch planes on a 27mHz radio which had only Aileron on the right stick and elevator on the left. From this I progressed to 4ch planes introducing rudder on the left stick and the throttle right. Heli's was next and it seemed natural to me to fly this mode. In the early days I used to blame me not being able to do some moves because I was a 1'er. The change came when Tim posted a fantastic video of a Russian chap doing all the moves, so I guessed I just had to try a little harder

Today, some of the very best world pilots are mode 1'er so I don't think it matters at all
                      Cheers Matt

Theoretically, piro moves are easier on mode 2. But for similar reasons mode 1 is easier for rolling moves.

Having said that. Matt seems to have no issues doing pro flips with piros and I love rolling stuff

I to started on 27am 2 channel, 2 stick stuff but all locals at mill hill near Shoreham were mode 2 so when we upgraded our tx we went mode2
