Not yet it hasn't and its fine for one of your micro toys, but you will soon change your mind when it puts a 600 in for you, and its only a matter of time. thats not if, but when. enjoy until that moment

if you mean the dx8, I currently havn't got one as its back at horizon again being replaced by a brand new one...... as the pots have failed again within weeks of just being replaced !Originally posted by Mike Sanders View PostWhy have you still got yours then?
oh, and the 600 is still in bits from the crash it caused

Sorry, but disagree about your comment "only a matter of time". I happily fly my G500, 550 and 700 on my dx8 without any undue worries. There's plenty on here flying very expensive helis on spektrum radios. You clearly have had a bad experience, and whilst that's not good, it's a long way from being the norm.Originally posted by dogbiscuit View PostNot yet it hasn't and its fine for one of your micro toys, but you will soon change your mind when it puts a 600 in for you, and its only a matter of time. thats not if, but when. enjoy until that moment

The trouble is that I also hapily flew my 400, 500, 550 and 600 for a long time as well and was convinced that the problems would not happen to me..... but id did, and the chances are it will to you as well at some point. untill that time, you will perhaps disagree and I am unlikely to change your mind, but then when it does happen to you, you will understand and change your mind for sure.Originally posted by tomatwalden View PostSorry, but disagree about your comment "only a matter of time". Wow, that's a shame. Sorry to hear that.the 600 is still in bits from the crash it caused
Although it's usually thumbs, I have had one or two "unexplained" crashes. I wonder if there might be an intermittent fault on the DX8. Generally I like mine a lot. Does anyone know what percentage are unsatisfactory?Tron 7.0 advance Vbar evo V Control

Sorry, but simply not true. I'm not going to argue the toss, but I would put my mortgage on the fact that the number of spektrum radios out there without issues far outweighs those with problems. The chances are, nothing will go wrong.Originally posted by dogbiscuit View Post.... and the chances are it will to you as well at some point....
Look, Horizon sell thousands of these units worldwide. If the chances were most were going to fail, they simply would not sell - period.
I understand you don't like them - I understand why. You can state what happened to you, as that's a fact. But you cannot make wide extrapolations from your experiences however - not if you want to stay truthful.Tom

I do like the dx8 and many of their other products Tom. I just dont like its unreliabability and its just not good enough really. The reason they sell so many is price and predominantly customer service. Their great customer service keeps them alive. Without this they would not survive.Originally posted by tomatwalden View PostSorry, but simply not true. No one can say that except God maybe! Id still trust my Dx8 and I'm sure thousands do as well with no problems.
Micro toys that that can perform 3D inverted flight etc...
Don't be such a big heli snob
micro helis have their place and pros love to fly them too!

You quote a long time? Perhaps like all devices cars included which have a mandatory yearly check on them to make sure they don't do what you've described in the heli world. Maybe a tx also needs service checks or something to prevent this kind of thing! A tx MOTOriginally posted by dogbiscuit View PostThe trouble is that I also hapily flew my 400, 500, 550 and 600 for a long time as well and was convinced that the problems would not happen to me..... but id did, and the chances are it will to you as well at some point. untill that time, you will perhaps disagree and I am unlikely to change your mind, but then when it does happen to you, you will understand and change your mind for sure.

so how did you pinpoint exactly that it was the dx8 at fault and not another electric component on the heli?
Just curious?Oxy 2, 180cfx, 130X

it was blatantly obvious. the tx started putting random inputs in on its own with any heli it was bound to, and the monitor shows the inputs when you are not even touching the tx. horizon then confirmed the fault in writing. its a very common fault on the dx8 caused by the pots. Like any developing fault, it throws you off gaurd at first and you explore different possibilities, but with this one it soon became very clear as to the issueOriginally posted by Bhujang View PostYou quote a long time? and to add a little more.... within about 6 weeks the same problem has reocurred on a different pot (theses are the latest new pots just fitted) this time, on three consecutice flights it put three full elevator movements in for a fraction of a second each time. Needless to say, Horizon imediately responded by offering a new replacement tx which is great service as we all know, but this should not be happening, period. This is not an isolated case either, as within the last two weeks the same thing happened to Daneps dx8 (another member of club in Taunton). A pot failed and servos began moving without stick input. Of course, Horizon again sorted it within days, but again this should not be happening to a tx of this age (both 18 months old) I also know of another pot going on a dx7 at this time.
So, if your currently flying a dx8 and you see the slightest unusual movement just be very wary. Ground the heli and watch the monitor

If you are using any Tx, from any manufacturer, checking the monitor screen against stick movement is a sensible check at the start of each session; as is a rudimentary range check.Originally posted by dogbiscuit View Post[...]So, if your currently flying a dx8 and you see the slightest unusual movement just be very wary. It's just common sense (IMO), and will pick up many issues before they lead to a flight problem.
I had various interesting problems with my DX8s - none of which caused crashes or a loss of faith (I've now migrated to DX18QQs & DX9s). I guess this is down to the use of simple & sensible precautions.Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...

well if my car had started doing that I'd of took it straight to a garage. Not to would be irresponsible and human error! It's not the cars manufacturers fault.
