  • Regular Bearing Lubbock

    Hi fella's
I seem to replacing bearings on a fairly regular bases. Is there an acceptable method of lubing shielded bearings with the hope of saving a wedge of cash this comming season.

    Thanks for stopping by

You can try one of the point oiler like they use for scorpion motors or just bearing oil.

There is a simple way of regreasing shielded bearings. The bearing is dropped into a conical receptical (which seals the outer edge) and a syringe of grease with a conical nozzle end is placed on the id. Pumping grease through the id fills the void below the bearing and forces grease up through the shield edges and up through the bearing. That forces the old dirty grease out and refills the bearing.
It actually works quite well but theoretically the bearing is now overfilled with grease.

Neater, when possible, is to lift the shield seal - some have a tiny wire ring holding the shields, then clean and regrease. If memory serves one of the small bearing sellers does offer that service but I have no idea of cost.

Oil is theoretically bad as it dilutes and washes out the grease.

Easier may be to swap problem bearings out for sealed bearings as opposed to shielded but inevitably there is some drag on the rubber seal edges
