Im an IT person, not dim but not an electrical engineer either. Why can't we have standards for Lipo battery connectors? Maybe Im missing something? 3 helis and 3 different power connectors. Please dont ask me to solder on anything, I'll just set the garage on fire. Having messed about with a number of chargers where a degree in Nuclear Physics is required I eventually found one that is easy to use and understand (Robbe Infinity 3) but I still have the connectivity issue of connecting the power to the balancer. Maybe leads can be purchased to cure this issue but it seems to me a little standarisation would really help. Rant over. Im sure this is where you all tell me Im talking out my rear :-)

Were not talking Deans plugs or 4mm bannana plugs here were back to the age old ballancer leads again.
Your right it is a pain & they should standardise them.
what you need to do is get adaptors made up to suit your robbie charger I would get in contact with the shop you purchased the unit from & ask about balance lead adaptors either that or you realy need to learn to solder.

I am not familiar with that charger but have just looked it up,it is i assume a proper balance charger with multi pin outputs as well as the main power leads.
The Eflite Lipo has standard JST plugs and is fairly common so a suitable adapter should be available,Align Lipos and Maxpoly lipos etc use the same plug
The Flightpower Lipos use the same plug as Thunderpower and its again a common plug so adapters should be available,i assume the 6s pack has 2 separate plugs as well as the main power one

Hi
There was a chance and talk of there been a standard when Li-Polys first appeared but it never happened:-(
However Flight Power made the step to go to the same connector as Thunder Power a while back and Align are now giving the option of this same connector on most of their packs so it is starting to happen at last, light at the end of the tunnel at least:-)

In germany the align plug is a standard.
Pretty much all the lipos have JST-XH (Align) plugs on them - but that info comes from one german model shop I corresponded with.
Thre most common in the world is the JST-XH (like align) so the others should swap to that, and if they want to sell batteries with other connectors they should offer a JST-XH adaptor, and other chargers should offer a JST-XH adaptor.
Simple.
The most common connector should win out.
But its not that simple becuase Align used 3,4 and 5 pin connectors, when they should have used 5 pin connnectors partially populated (like most other manufacturers did).
The most common connector is on all the cheapest equipment and the more expensive batteries and chargers are using orther connectors for product differentiatian and customer retention (plus they bought half a million connectors to use up).
The connectors themselves are cheap as chips if you can find out exactly what they are in the molex or JST catalogue.Last edited by moyesboy; 17-03-2008, 09:53 AM.www.heli-extreme.co.uk a good club in south Sheffield

post with listing of different connector types
How about that info being a sticky please?
