yesterday the heli went over a couple of times whilst on the ground, then upon restarting the heli would not lift off i think the prob is the the lower blade cog is not connected to the larger cog as it free wheels when rotating and can be turned by hand quite easily . main prob now is the the only thing that works are the lights on the heli. on the transmiter i have 3 green 1 yellow 1 red light? on the board in the heli there is a flashing red light. any help would be appreciated, as this is all new to me. thanks in advance.

This isn't a common helicopter oldflyer. (welcome to the forum by the way )
At a guess I would say the lights on the transmitter are battery condition lights which will extinguish one by one as the batteries loose power. The light on the helicopter will show you have power. whether its steady or flashing could show a radio connection or not?(have a look in the manual if you have one)
the gears should be meshed with the motor at all times,as its a contra rotating helicopter so has no need for a "freewheel" or oneway gear. if the motor and large gear are still meshed and turning each other then there is usually a small grub screw in the larger gear which pinches the main shaft its mounted to. has this come loose allowing the gear to turn freely?(the two large gears are independant of each other and each driven by there own motor in opposite directions.) (contra rotating)Last edited by Boggy; 26-10-2013, 04:05 PM.

i,ll have a look at the cogs etc, the red light on the transmiter some times flashes then goes solid red with the rest of the lights staying on, inst manual v.basic japanese to english as you can imagine. there seems to be parts readily available for the heli. are these circuit boards and motors prone to burning out,? as its only been used a couple of times wouldn,t have thought that could be the problem. i thought that most of thses duel blade helis were pretty standard shows how little i know lol.

Although some people refer to the helis most of us fly as toys the one you have is what we would label a toy heli. Not saying thats bad a lot of people come into the hobby via these sorts of machines. Once the addiction takes hold then you swiftly move on to something else, most of the general advice on here and around the net stands for the machine you've bought.
Make sure that the battery is disconnected when you are looking over the mechanics, the drive must be there to both gears in order to drive the blades, the circuit board will drive the motors at differing speeds to produce the yaw rotation and provide lift. The lift will be produced again with the speed of rotation of the blades, these are noramll fixed pitch and rely on speed.

got in touch with these people who sell them and the spare parts...ecreastcoastrotor... they reckon the red light on the pcb board should go solid red and not flash to show its connected to the transmitter so its either a faulty pcb board or transmitter. hmmm.

the problem Is we can only give you answers about the generic type,as per my first post this is not a common helicopter here.
most crystals are similar to a two pin fuse,so If they will fit your 2ch then yes that should be a good enough test.(I suspect they will be ok).
After a bit of googling it would appear that the pcb board on these heli's is indeed weak, there are a few threads on rcgroups.
please dont take this the wrong way but I doubt it is worth spending money on as far as spares are concerned.
You have tasted the hobby and I'm sure your hooked ,its how many of us started. you would be far better off researching a bit and getting your self a more user friendly helicopter.
decide how you want to use it and your budget and go from there.
eg
indoor only or indoor/outdoor.
size
cost
availability of spares
knowledge base of other users.
maybe look at the Eflite blade series of helicopters or the soon to be released align micro.

I second what Boggy just said really.
It would be all to easy to say 'get yourself a real model helicopter rather than a toy' but that would be dismissive and would suggest that there is a clear dividing line between toys and models.
There are a wealth of cheap and cheerful toy helicopters, that you can buy anywhere from aldi to john lewis, and in lots of 'gadget' type shops. They are fun while they last, but almost always lack the backup of spares, and are essentially a throw away item.
Models start for not a lot more money. They have spare parts available for pretty much everything. They have user manuals that are usually at least understandable.
If I was starting again, I would look at the eflite range (blade) and see how I got on.Logo 600 3D --- Vortex Vx1n

welcome to the forum/hobby.i got one of these for xmas a couple of years ago it was my 1st heli and basicly useless!! yes it looks pretty but the only 2 flights i managed,it just flew off would not turn back went out of range and crashed!! i cant remeber much now about it,but it sounds like you are not initiating it properly and i cant remember now if throttle has to be down or mid stick as the heli goes through its sequence.it did however give me the bug!! my next heli was a twister collective pitch(old dated and probaly obsolete now)very hard to fly and frustrating but i learnt a lot and crash repairs.basically you need patience and a wallet and walk before you run.id suggest if you are serious look as mentioned above at the blade range possibly 2nd hand. parts are relitavely cheap and plentifull to replace when you crash!! and put a decent flight simulator on your xmas wish list a pheonix or realflight it doesnot cost anything when you crash on them!!before long you will be addicted with the rewards.its took over me now i even changed my car to fit helis in and just recently moved house but made sure i had an extra room for my models/workshop so im not in the shed
all the best adam

ok thanks all for the info and comments. i,ve since found from the chap i,ve been talking to at ecreastcoastrotor that if the pcb board had packed up there would be no flashing led. they have sold a lot of the transmitters over the last year so seems these might be at fault.
as i am basically a novis sorry if some of the questions seem stupid. will any tranmitter work with the heli as long as its the same frequency and has the crystal out of the one i have? might be the cheapest option if i can find a second hand one. i would like to get some use out of this heli as i,ve only had the one flight out of it lol. as a ball park figure what would a second hand setup cost for the eflite range ( blade) with transmitter etc. is there a specific forum room for them or just check out for sale posts? and frogger to initiate the heli the throttle has to be down switch on heli then move throtle up and back down to bottom it should then be ready but theres nothing. oh i,d prefer outdoor flyingLast edited by oldflyer; 27-10-2013, 01:49 PM.

You'll likely find for the smaller high-street helis that they will only work with the transmitter supplied in the box.
Have a look at the MSRX.
The MSRX is a good starter and RTF (Ready to Fly) comes with a transmitter too. You can find these at anything from ~£70+ on t'internet as prices vary so much by vendor. You may find 2nd hand ones on ebay although as a new starter I'd suggest new, just in case there's an issue with a used one.
The good thing with the MSRX is if/when you're ready for a proper transmitter, the spektrum range of transmitters will work with it, whereas with many cheaper models, they only work with the one tx.
Or you could jump in with the other blade models, but most of those will require you to already have a transmitter (more outlay)
Get ready to spend lots and lots of money if/when you become addicted to this hobby

TBH it doesn't look any more capable than the one you have got. You don't get that much heli for 50 quid and expect it to fly well.
Spend a bit more and go for one of the Blade range. They do some great little helis that are just perfect for learning on.
For example, the Mcpx is way way smaller than the ones you want but are pretty crash-proof and really easy to repair anyway.
You would pay double what you show above but honestly it would be worth it. You will learn how to fly and the difference between the hype and reality of different models.
Get down to a club as well and watch what other flyers are flying. One of the biggest problems with learning is having to 'fight' a cheap or poorly set up model - it just makes learning so much harder and more frustrating.Happy Landings.

Hi old flyer , as a relative newbie myself ( converted plank flyer
) I did waste some money on co axial helis please don't waste any more money on them . Even if you get a cheap sim that will give you a good idea . It seems you are looking at big helis but you will be amazed at what these small helis can do ! Indoor season is upon us try and find an indoor session near you and go and have a look at what others are flying.
Be warned this is an expensive hobby but is very rewarding.
