  • Think it's time for a rethink, any opinions?

OK so I've been quiet for quite a while as having our second child has really eaten into my time. Flying hasn't been something I've done much of, especially since the weathers been pants too.

There's also something slightly more stressful about having more helis and multiple sizes of batteries etc. I have a 130x, 500Pro, and 700e and I keep thinking back to when I flew the TT360 and how great it was to have one heli, one set of lipos, one set of spares, and cheap spares at that.

So it's got me thinking. I don't fly the 700e much at all, as it's a bit big to fly at work, and I don't fly the 130x at all as it's too big for the garden. So I'm thinking of just going back to one heli. So the 700e and 130x definitely go. But then what?

I have I think three options.

    Keep the 500Pro
Sell the 500 and get a 450 Dominator ( which is pretty similar to TT360 size wise as far as I can see )
Sell the 500 and get a Rave 450 ( parts more expensive than the trex )
Sell the 500 and get another TT360 from China and buy a bulk of spares.

The 500 vs 450L I think is the main contenders, but I'm stuck between them. Anyone flown both?

Pete there are a few 360mm blade heli's out there now warp 360, Jr forza, gaui x3 and the dominator. I do like my warp as its ni on indestructible!! But would get the gaui if I was doing it again. All are on 6s packs from 1200-1600 mah

I would stick with the 500 pro Pete, its a great size and will do all you ask of it. However I wouldn't sell your 700, just stick it in the loft as you will most certainly want to fly it another time

The 500 is a nice size and the resale on helis is pants.. so why sell it to buy something you'll complain can't take as much breeze and limits flying even more. Toss the rest for spares money

Sell the 700 and 130 and stick with the 500, reasonable crash costs, can handle a decent wind, portable.

Where do you fly Pete?, I fly in a local park and feel as if I am pushing my luck when I fly my 500 (I only do it if there are no dog-walkers there, on the few occasions that I have flown at a proper flying field a 500 has felt smlall, so I would also factor in where you are likely to be able to fly most often / easily.

If you do chose to sell the 130 left me know as mine is playing up and I could easily pop over and buy it from you ...

                  Thanks guys, more thinking required.

Mikej I fly on waste ground at work and also ( if I get chance )at a club field.

I love flying the 700, but at the minute I get a couple of flights in every 3 months, so most of the time its a shelf queen. Just doesn't seem worthwhile holding onto a heli that gets flown so little.

Will give you a shout on the 130x, need to price it up as I've got loads of spares and upgrades etc.

Get a cleaner & maid mate, free up those precious hours so you can get to the field.

On a serious note, second hand prices are a joke, particularly when Align keeps churning new models out seemingly every 3 months - keep the models, plus the 500 has always been a great model to keep in the boot

Just sold my 450 and bought a 500 to complement my 700. 500 & 700, best combo out there .

I used to fly my 450 a lot, especially when I was able to fly at a park sometimes and it was nice and cheap when I was crashing a lot. But when I got a 500 it quickly took over the role the 450 had played before and I find that it's just that much bigger visually and just heavy enough to fly in a lot more wind. But it's still so much smaller than even a 600, and the single 6s packs are very convenient. So IMHO the 500 is just a great size for an everyday workhorse or a convenient backup to bring along. (and ironically I find I actually don't crash it all the time, most likely because I can fly it higher and have more time to react).

I'm of the opinion if I had the choice of 1 Heli I'd be going for a 550 size as its a compromise between size and performance and the ease of autoing. I'd still keep a beater though whether it was a 130x or mcpx bl. I sold my 500 a while back as I kept on breaking the servos in every crash. The 700's are great size machines to see in the sky and handle the winds the best but if your only using it once every 3 months what's the point? Use the lipo's on a 550 instead and get out more often. I would prefer a 500 over a 450 regardless whether its the new 450l or not, can't see a forza or anything smaller than a 500 being any better than a trex 500. Good luck with your decision Pete, see you at the f.o.d at some point, Ian.

No excuses Pete - you should fly more
Very rich coming from me though - on a good year I may only get out once a month.
