  • Annoying Crash

    Hi,
Decided I would try and optimise my 3gx today, started by checking the tail would remain straight while hovering into wind in rate mode, after some adjustment of the tail pushrod I got it to a point I was happy with.I then thought I should reset the rudder servo endpoints so I pressed the set button for 2 seconds then went so the limit led was flashing, reset my rudder limits in each direction then waited ten seconds so the 3gx unit exited setup mode. After this i checked everything on the tail was going in the right direction, when happy i took it out to fly, upon lift off the tail was fine but as the heli got 1foot of the ground it tilted hard left and before i had time to do anything had hit the ground, was this my fault should I have powered the heli down after resetting the tail travel limits,I only went into the rudder gyro setup did not alter anything else can not understand it.Heli had flown fine for 20+ flights before.Always had a bit of distrust of 3gx unit after things I have read, and found with mine everytime I first power it up the Aileron servo goes up to its extreme of travel for a few seconds before initialising,so i always unplug wait a few secs then plug in again and it then works properly. Not impressed with DFC either as what was basicley a tip over the blades survived but the gears on all 3 swashplate servos are toast.

    Dave.

        Hey.

Sorry to hear you're having a problem and the 3GX may have been involved.

Could you tell me what firmware you are flying please?
FBL models as you may have read are not so keen on cyclic inputs while the skids are still in contact with the floor, so is is possible you moved the model or added cyclic while taking off or adjusting the 3GX and the swashplate hadn't returned to centre before you went to take off?
Reading your post again it seens you may have been airbourn already when the aileron input tipped the model?

When making any changes I think you do need to press the set button to store the changes as you move onto the next parameter, even if you press the button to skip over the remaining options as if not altered they will stay the same. Doesn't explain your tip over as you were in the tail gyro menu making changes.

If you can tell me a little more about what model this is fitted to and the setup.

          Hi Ian,

I am currently still running the v3 firmware, model is trex 550 dfc,I could have added cyclic input by mistake but i try not to until model has left the ground and have had 20 or so flights before with out problems.I had carried the model in and out to the patch without powering off to adjust the tail pushrod a few times and all was fine until I went into setup mode and reset the rudder limits.I would have rather dumb thumbed it in at least you know what caused the crash then.
