  • Can i use a yaw rate gyro to sense roll??

Please i am new to the hobby... I am trying to be innovative here, please if i am wrong let me know....I was just wondering if it could be possible to install in my Trex 450 pro two optional yaw rate gyro in a plane where they will detect roll instead of yaw... And please will it stabilize any rolling tendencies???... Also, can it be possible to work,if i connect the two roll sensing gyros into two channels of my Rx that is allocated for the two airleron servos, and connect the two airleron servos into the two roll sensing gyros each, would it work?????

That's what flybarless unit is. A 3 axis gyro.

On your trex is a CCPM setup. The three servos work in combination to drive the swashplate. ie if you apply aileron two servos move, if you apply elevator three servos move.
The programming for this is in the transmitter.
The channels from the receiver are no pure elevator or pure aileron.
this makes using separate gyros for flybarless control difficult. The link mentioned used a CL1 ccpm controller as well.

All this stuff is out of date now as flybarless controllers (3 axis gyros) are available for about £40 (eg Tarot ZYX). The effect is the heli is not tipped at all by the wind. IT will sit very stable in the hover, but it does still eventually need correcting. It is not self stabilising (there are more complex system that will do that).
