Posting is one of the biggest variables because it seems some people either grossly under-estimate the amount of padding and sturdiness of box it takes for something fragile to survive through the post, or they were just lazy or didn't care. This has been the cause of most of the small handful of dissapointments. (and sometimes they think by buying insurance they can get away with shoddy packing but insurance is worthless if the packing is not within the specs laid out by RM or whoever delivers it).
Yeah it is a mixed bag but thats buying and selling used items. There is people who love the hobby but simply can't afford to buy everything new or because of other circumstances like babies can't justify spending £000's on helis so have to cut it back one way or another.

And yes I agree I have had some transactions go better than expected, items arrived next day in better than expected condition etc. Some kind people have even responded to wanted ads and sent me things free of charge.. but I've also had it where I've paid a high price expecting it to be "as new" and its turned out to be worse than "good" condition. Some people care some don't.

Just have take it on the chin like all the other annoyances in life =)

If you want , haggle a bit yes why wouldn't you, if you have no intention of buying don't bother contacting the person in the first place ! Simples !
      I agree with this totally.

I too have had several people agree to buy items, exchange post codes and details, then pull out an hour before i was due to set off and meet. Its a bloody good job i decided to just check my forum messages before i set off otherwise it would have been a wasted journey...... Very annoying

My favourite excuse i got a few times is my wife wont let me have it........ Who are these people? Surely if your wife would not let you buy such an item (which is fair enough, not for me to judge) But why get in touch with me at all? Or another one is "I have decided i have got too many helis"

It is so annoying when some people clearly never had any intention of buying the item, but rather were probably just bored and offered to buy then haggle on price for a day or 2, arrange to meet then pull out.....

Nothing is sold until you have the money in your hand, simples. Sometimes "life" gets in the way of the best laid plans and changes everything!

The amount of things I win cheap on ebay that get damaged or lost in the post with a refund a few days later . That really annoys me.

To be fair, i guess it is just the nature of selling anything in a relatively informal fashion. Or a formal fashion for that matter.... it must be frustrating for a salesman in a shop to demo or spend a lot of time with a customer that in the end just turns round and says no thank you... then goes home and orders on the net for slightly cheaper.

I have to say though, personally, if i had agreed to buy or sell something to someone, then i would not back out. Unless something really drastic happened.... life altering. Otherwise i would go through with the agreed deal. Finances would not come into it because if i did not have the money, i would not agree to buy something. I would be worried about wasting someones time too much to agree to buy something when i didn't have the finances in place already

                Example.

I bought some RAW flying talent from SaneAdam some weeks back.

                Still haven't had it delivered.

A friend of mine tried his hand at selling cars and that used to do his nut in! People asking loads of questions, test driving.. uming n arrring but no buy! Fair enough its not everyday you go out and spend 12-15K on a new car but still.. if you want one you got to pay

what is all the moaning about here!!
I bet we have all asked about things, made an excuse because we were just not sure etcccc.
Let he without sin cast the first stone.
It is simply a bartering process and a fact of life.
i bought a robin hood kit car on ebay then got inundated on here telling me not to do it. well i listened. it may be an inconvenience for the seller but it would have been £2500 down the drain for me. I offered the seller the £8 relist fee but he sold to the next highest bidder.
i am now chuffed to bits with the mgb roadster i bought and happily tinkering away.
i have had some amazingly daft questions but they are not personal.
And Rob no matter how fed up you are i do not condone mentioning someones personal details without their consent no matter how much you may think them to be untrue.
It is all just part of the hobby

He hasn't though has he. He has not mentioned any names. Anyone could be just about to have a baby. Providing he does not name names then whats the problem. If the guy that pulled out has problem he can get in touch with him.

I don't think that part is bothering Rob, or anyone else for that matter, if you list stuff you are going to get questions, that''s a given.

When people start haggling over the price and then reach an agreement you do kind of expect people to follow through, after all you are selling at the price they said they wanted to pay.

I've been lucky with the few sales I've done, quickly reached agreement and 100% followed through.

For my part, I'll never start haggling on the price until I've made sure the goods are what I'm looking for, sometimes that involves a question or two to clear up missing details from the original ad, but once I start talking prices I'm ready to buy.

Problems come when people start haggling first and thinking afterwards ...

I haven't mentioned anybody's name and neither would I do so ! The buyer just decided at the very last minute to come up with a lame excuse "simple" !
