  • Jesus bolt ?

Does a Jesus bolt have to be a specific type of bolt, does it have to have a non threaded portion that runs through the block. Or can I just use a full threaded bolt like this ?

Sorry for the bad quality image

It should be a shouldered bolt Sam.

Needs to be a high tensile steel bolt (NOT stainless steel or cad/zinc plated steel as they are too soft) and not a set bolt, so yes it needs an un-threaded portion through the main shaft section.
Easiest option is to get them from your preferred heli shop, but you can get them from engineering supply shops.

Shoulder screw.pngSocket cap screw.pngThe first image is a "shoulder bolt', I think Jesus bolts are usually the second type, generally known as 'cap screw or collared bolts' but on the other hand I may just be totally confused!!!!!

Your right about the shoulder bolt and to some extent the socket head cap screws but these can include fully threaded shanks as well as part threaded at leased for the shorter lengths anyway.
The bolts with more shank than thread the we use for jesus bolts are a little harder to find or you can look for longer bolts with a plain shank length that meets your needs an shorten the threaded section to suit.
The term collared bolts is usually associated with eye bolts tho.
