Since flying electric I have always parallel charged 6 x 6S 5000mah. When starting the charge my pl8 will alternate between pulling 28 and 32 amps. But settles down after 5 mins.

Is this normal?

could be a charging circuit fault in the genny that, ive seen a couple of Honda Suitcase gennys do that. Id get it to your local dealer for a check over, just to be on the safe side

The New updated software on the Hyperion charges have a cool little soft ramp up so it loads up the genny nice and smoothly could be the PL8 just wakin the kaka out of the sinewave

What you are describing is a constant power device reacting with a constant voltage device. This is normal. The charger will try and deliver a constant power to the battery under charge and the generator will try and regulate the voltage that it produces. This usually ends up as the ac voltage being unstable can be by varying amounts. Basically the charger will deliver its output and this causes the ac voltage to drop a little and then it will take more current because the voltage has dropped so it can deliver the same power..... so the generator will see the drop in voltage and speed up to compensate for this.... and then the voltage goes up and the charger takes less current so then the generator voltage goes too high and it slows down.... repeat until stable... !
