  • parts from abroad (china and hk)

I was thinking of getting some upgraded batteries and spare blades for my hubsan x4 from eBay. There some cheap prices if I get them from abroad (mainly Hong Kong and China) does anyone have any experience with buying these? If so are they any good or just a false economy.

    Thanks
    Markyboy

I find things from China to be pretty good on the whole for the price. Look at the ratings on ebay. Batteries are good from HobbyKing UK. It might be an idea to post a link.

Some people have said that they have been hit with import tax when buying items from abroad, so that's something to think about as well.

I live in Qingdao China. Been here 7 years working. Hong Kong and China are very different places but as far as Ebay is concerned maybe not so different. I would assume mostly run out of Hong Kong but.
I buy everything I need from the Chinese version of Ebay. Never had a problem but just be careful about checking you are ordering exactly what you think you are. For sure you can get the cheapest possible products form China a lot of which are rubbish but then you can also get some of the best. Apple, Nike etc all made here.
Would be difficult if you ever had a dispute I would imagine but guess that is the risk you take for good prices.

If you are buying from a highly rated supplier should be ok.

I have bought a lot of small stuff from China and Hong Kong via eBay, both Heli stuff such as batteries and blades and also small workshop tools. No problem if you are prepared to wait two to three weeks for delivery. Sellers are desperate to avoid bad feedback and any problems that I have had have been resolved without argument. I try not to spend more than about £15 at a time and have not been hit with VAT or import duty but if you buy expensive then Customs and Excise may get interested.

I've bought loads from both HK and China and never had a problem. I tend to buy mostly from a small group of vendors that I trust and from whom I get excellent service (AC-RC.com is excellent for Tarot kit). I also get a lot of stuff from HK and Chinese eBay vendors, my approach is always to go for the cheapest shipping and wait (I don't buy things that I want quickly from them) - if you pay for quick shipping you waste the savings that you have made by buying from HK.

I also make a lot of small orders to keep under the HMRC limits and also on eBay the vendors don't combine shipping costs so there is no benefit in making larger orders
