  • Where can I buy futaba servo horn screws for servos with a metal output gear?

Just wondering where I can buy these from? Spent an hour searching and all i can find is the screws for servos with a plastic output shaft which of course are more like a normal screw type.. The metal ones use a slot screw, which measuring it seems to be 2.6 to 2.8mm thick and 8mm long.

Its the one screw that holds the servo horn in place that I'm talking about, not the screws used to fix the servo into the model. I cannot find the ones used for metal output gears as used on the BLS451's

    Cheers

yes a standard M3 course machine screw will work. remember to locktite it in place or use a spring or star washer to stop it from vibrating out.

Ah right so it is a M3 size then! I had a feeling it was but trying to measure it was saying smaller than that.

Will any grade of metal do as most seem to be A2 grade whatever that is?

I still can't find the actual futaba parts - its odd they sell everything else like the grommets and metal eyelet things but not these screws!

I suspect these will fit futaba servos but any M3 bolt / screw will do as it's only there to hold the servo horn on. As a result it shouldn't be taking any load, as this should be on the splines of the servo output shaft, this does assume that the horn has been fitted correctly

I also think in the past I've used screws that have come with kits as long as they've got an M3 thread then you're good to go

I keep a good stock of screws in the sizes used on my helis. I usually buy fairly long ones and if necessary I cut and file them down to the desired length. Most of them are A2. This is a good grade of stainless steel but i use some high tensile screws also for important applications such as feathering shaft bolts, jesus bolts etc.

Thanks for all the info and the offer Ben,

I am slowly building up a bag of various screws/bolts/nuts etc which usually I can find something to do the job with, but had no servo screws and was ideally looking for the futaba ones.

I am going to order some of these:M3 M4 M5 Steel Grade 10.9 Button Head Socket Screw Allen Bolt - Choose Bolt Size | eBay

Can get 20 for £1.82 delivered, their black and high tensile (although not needed I hope they wont round off too easy)

M3 thread will measure under 3mm. actually try fit a precision ground shaft in to hole the exact diameter hole and it does not fit. Well by hand at least. With enough force anything will fit and if it breaks it was not strong enough anyway.

The M3 relates to the outer diameter of the screw itself which would be the bottom of the thread on the female part.

They sell these: P-SJ55178 | SERVO HORN SCREWS - 10

But they're for plastic output shafts, they don't seem to sell the ones for metal servos.

I try to use cap heads more. The socket is larger and rounds off less than the smaller socket that you get with button heads.

I agree the cap heads are better for that reason but i just dont like the appearence of them (i know its minor!) - will see how these bolts are i've ordered off ebay.. they'll be spot on i reckon.
