  • Lessons in Southampton area.

    Hi All.
Currently living in China at the moment and taught myself to fly helis about 18 months ago.
Heading to Europe at the end of September start October and will be visiting family in Southampton area.

Looking to take a couple of lessons when I am there and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good person / club to contact.

    Cheers

Come down and see us at South Hants Helis (Between Southampton & North Baddesley), easy access from all directions)

PM Discoferret or JimmyHorns for the location.

Note, electric heli only (no size restriction), and evidence of BMFA or RCHA insurance required. We fly every weekend and some of us who can, through the week (dawn to dusk flying).

We have some really good pilots who can certainly help including a BMFA examiner

Thanks will do. Unfortunately I think I will only manage to bring m 250. Last time I took the 500 was just a pain getting the lipos through security at the airports. Goblin unfortunately just not so practical to get in the case. Also carting a new baby along to space a little limited. That was my excuse to buy the 250 anyway :-)

Dont have insurance. Looks like have to get the BMFA through a club?

Also keen on doing a "b" test (or is the easy one "a" ? ) Just out of interest. Who is the BMFA examiner there? Maybe I can contact them and see what he chances are of doing.

        Cheers

No probs, plenty of room for a 250 ....LOL .

Couple of the guys bring their kids down, and we all become surrogate dads whilst they fly.

Your call on which insurance, I have got RCHA insurance, and it was easy done through Stuart (and its cheaper than BMFA I think).

The A test is the first and easier one (so I'm told!!!) Not sure if you can take your B before getting your A though.

Mattie-Lodge is our examiner . He is a busy guy, but if he can help I'm sure he will, top bloke is our Matt

Everything I have driven or ridden in my life with a motor in it has the gas peddle on the right. Seemed like the obvious way to go for me.
The only funky thing is the cyclic is split which seems a bit wired. When I first started on the sim I had the cyclic both elevator and Aileron on the left. Got a local guy to see what he thought of the sim I had and he was like WTF is that. So quickly change to normal mode 1.

Wont be the first time I have been laughed at so all good. :-)

I tried a mode 1 on the SIM, even more of a total disaster than my normal flying!
                              I'll stick with mode 2.... :-)
