  • Damaged packs

My 7HV went in yesterday, and my Opti packs got a little damaged. They have some small grazes on them, and they've got a few small dents on them.

A few club mates said they're still usable, but just wanted to get a broader opinion on this.

Would it help if I upload some photos ?

Sweet smell as Ben says. Try to look into the grazes and see if it is just the heat shrink or if there has been any penetration to the cells. Grazing sounds ok. How big is the dent? Are the packs ultra's? If so don't these have metal plates to protect the cells?

Tbh a couple of those look like they might have penetrated the cells. But i would think you would definitely smell the sweet smell if they had. Could always e mail the pics to Andy at Optipower and see what he thinks

Most of the people i fly with would probably fly them anyway. Not sure i would... Its defo an at your own risk thing with damaged packs.

If you can not smell anything I would do a few slow cycles on the charger then fly without pushing them hard and if they perform ok then carry on.

But again, its at your own risk.

...i've seen people fly on much worse packs than that. Maybe isolate it in a concrete block for a day or two see if it goes up. If not should be om.

Looks like that to me as well, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't smell it.

Looks like you may need to talk to Andy about his crash replacement offer ...

Be careful posting as they are xraying boxes for the lipos i'm told and massive fines if not sent as lipos admitted by royal mail.
