  • Is a TT Raptor 50 SE FB is bit of a dinosaur now?

I have had the raptor about 10years now and learnt to hover and fly circuits on it.

Last few weeks I been flying my FBL Trex 250 and 450 a lot and I have now started to do mild 3d with the 450 , I went up the field today and took TT Raptor 50 N SE FB with me to fly something bigger, but I found it to be really slow in forward flight compared to the 450 and didn't feel confident enough to try any 3d with the Raptor. Is this because its FB or is this old model always going to fly like this?

Is this to be expected with this model, is because it fb or I am missing something?

I will take the Trex 700n FBL out tomorrow and see how that feels.

Maybe I just need to change the Raptor for another 50 size heli that is FBL, any suggestions?

Any thoughts or experiences gratefully appreciated.

I did a similar thing, over the winter months I only flew my 500 DFC then got the FB raptor 50 out and just couldn't get on with it! It might be more the fact you have got used to the power of the electric as well as flybarless.
IMO the Raptor 50 is still a very capable helicopter, but I guess it's what you get used to.

nowt wrong with the rappies or flybars for that matter. they have to be flown different, and the flybar ratios have to be altered to speed the responses up.

I fly a rappy 90 with a bar and ive made that as agile as possible without going fbl, and its really good imo. As good as most 50 size in agility id reckon. and my Vibe 50 with a flybar is just mental!! flies like a 450!

Im now setting up a Knight 3d on Flybarless so im preparing myself for some mental ass heli! LOL
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

It's probably the woodies and the .37 slowing it down lol

With a Raptor 50 if you can run a governed headspeed around 2000rpm it can be pretty punchy. With something like an OS50 Hyper your pitch range will probably be limited to around +/- 10, maybe 11 degrees with 600mm blades. I would imagine you can pull more pitch with a 55 or similar but it is definitely 3D-able with a .50 engine. In order to get really quick cyclic response you might need harder dampers depending what's in it now and blades will make a big difference, so lots of variables (and we're assuming fairly quick servos with enough torque).
