  • Pyro 700/45 for 7HV

    I currently run a HKIII 4035-560KV motor in my 7HV, paired with a CC ICE2 120HV.

Both motor and ESC get really hot, everything is setup as it should be as I've had guidance from a CC user.

I know Scorpion motors are known for getting hot, but my one is literally burning, it's untouchable and I don't like it like that. So I'm considering buying the Kontronics Pyro 700/45 as I know they're real great motors.

Anyone else use the Pyro and CC combo ? Any heat issues ??

As for the hot ESC .. I think it just needs better cooling as it is mounted under the 7HV canopy and it's like an oven under there.

    Thanks

I run a pyro 700 45 in my logo but with a jive ESC. Don't expect it to come down at ambient because it will run very warm if being pushed, but its definitely not untouchable. On the other hand the pyro 600 in my Goblin runs hot to the point where I can barely touch it and the YGE ESC is pretty warm too, I put this down to the the poor cooling on the Goblin, I had a big drop in temp when I did a flight with the canopy off (27degs down on the motor 20 on the ESC). Is there any airflow over the ESC?

      Pyro 700/45 for 7HV

I ran the same setup in my rave and nether got barely warm. As Matt said it could be a cooling issue or mebe timing or pwm wrong. That said I never flew it in temps like we're having now ??

Sam. I'd look at your timing and Pwm before making rash decisions mate. My 520 ultimate is getting hot as hell this last few weeks however my yge is still only warm. What are your settings?

Airflow has a massive influence on these temps.

Some heli's are better than others for this. AleeS is a good one due to the position of the motor and the shape of the canopy.

Thanks guys. There is a small amount of airflow on the ESC as I have fitted a fan to it to help with cooling, however, it's not enough.

Motor timing is recommended at 5deg for the Scorpion motor, even when I set the ESC to 5deg it was still too hot, I lowered it too 0deg and it's still too hot. I first had the PWM rate set to 8, but then I set it too outrunner mode. Still hot.

            :/

I'd look at the 700/52 unless you want to drop your head speed by a fairly large margin.

I'm using these in my G4's and after 8 mins of flying my low head speed G4 is barely warm even with the temps in the 30's the motor was still cool. The one in my high head speed G4 comes down stone cold after 5 mins of flying and I'm not being kind to it either. I have a 4035-530 in my fusion and it comes down very hot after 6 mins of flying.

Yep Graham, everything is set as it should, and I have tried juggling things around to try and improve the temp, but I'm not having much luck with it. It's been like it since I got the CC, so about a month now .. Now it's getting to the point where I'm running out of options :/

However the only thing I can possibly think it could be is an Airflow problem, not much more I can do about that, apart from cutting up my cano

                  Sorry for the small pic.

It shows *Min temp -4.0*C *Average temp 65.3*C Max temp 296*C

It can't be right surely, solder melts at 180*C lol. Its not showing that that is the temp through-out the whole flight, just bursts.

Sam have you checked the motor continuity? Are the mounting screws too long ??

Not that I know of, they're the stock mounting bolt. It's been grounded too.

BTW, the log says that I pull an avergae of 58A, which tbh isn't too bad.

Have you read this post on HF : If your YGE gets warm....read here - HeliFreak

there is a bit about timing with scorpions and YGE :-

Timing: this direct From the YGE manual but i missed it the first few times.

                            Inrunner 0 to 12°
                            Outrunner 18 to 30°

For instance if you come from a castle or you look at the Scorpion spec sheet you will see timing of 5 degrees or low. therefore many people select 6...instead a value of 18 should be chosen since it is considered low for Outrunners on the YGE.

Ive always ran mine with 18 degrees too, maybe that would be worth a try?

                            - Sorry ignore that lol, I just reread and saw you have a cc esc.... for some reason I thought you had a YGE LOL

My 7hv had 4525-520 ult + helijive and after a aggresive flight i could still touch motor was hot but not stupid try a few more settings, pyro are great motors, stay cooler never oil bearings, pyro comps are even better just amazing power, a pyro 750 would be good in that .
