Mutt's Trex 550E DFC maiden flight!!!

Hey Guys, just maidened my Trex550, been planning and building this heli for ages now and just finished doing the last of my final preflight checks ready to maiden it over theweekend.
Popped it on the lawn and did some power checks and blade tracking, ran smooth as can be and thought even though it's getting dark, could I just pop it into a hover??? Up she came and sat there are smooth as you like, Wife said I grinning like a feckin loom from ear to ear lol
The noise it makes is just sooo sweet, biggest heli I've flown since ECO8 about 6yrs ago and its mainly been indoor or my Mini Titian or 130X so its a bit of a monster when those 520's start spinning, sooo chuffed
Big thanks to the forum for all the 550e and Beastx posts, didn't ask any questions cos it was all there to be read , either way it helped loads, cheers guys.

Mark, why did you switch to Edge 553's? is it a performance upgrade???

Glad you're so pleased with the 550 - I think they're a great heli.. good size and power with only one flight lipo.

Mark, why did you switch to Edge 553's? is it a performance upgrade???

Are you sure it's not a bit of backlash in the tail drive chattering on spool down?

I went for the 553's because I'm a tart and just wanted to see the difference

It flies "bigger" with the 553's more stable and a little more pop

Not better for hard 3d apparently but I'm light years away from that anyhow

+1 possibly.. I wouldn't worry toooo much about vibes and noises on spool up and down - the heli does go through a weird patch while doing so... Its when its powered up and flying vibes and noises should be more of a concern.

And yeah if you make the rotor disc bigger you get more stability and control authority but it also means more power needed to drive the larger blades round.. Which is why if you want do crack 3D i think you're better off with the 520 blades.. more agile and more power into the disc/less bogging.

Not sure if its normal but I also have a clicking when spooling down on my 500pro

That was my first choice but I liked the idea of a single battery, weather looks good this weekend so I would hope to run a fair few batteries though my new baby. Will get some pic's if I can and post them asap, once again, big thanks for the 550e and beastX post, helped loads and its the reason I dumped the 3GX and went for the BeastX. Well chuffed...

Yeah those 3gx things aren't great... they work but not as good as beastx or other fbl units out there.
